This would count as an ATC delay as they allocate the "slots"0

Hi a bit of back ground first.
Flight delayed over 8 hours and kept on plane for 4 hours sat on runway while trying to sort out technical fault. (Door warning light on in cockpit).
I have written to BA on 22nd Jan via there On Line Contact form and got no response or e-mail confirming that it had been sent.
I then sent recorded delivery a letter on the 4th Feb asking for response within 14 days. No response.
I then re did the online contact form on the 6th March and got a Case number via automated e-mail but still no response from BA.
I logged on today to start the small claims process but I thought I would check to see if I should wait longer? Next week will be 2 months with no response what so ever. But looking at others this seems to be normal.
So do I wait?
Or do I complain to the CAA as next step before Small Claims?
Or should I just launch a Small Claims via the online web site?
Any advice gratefully received.

OK so the gods (hard working staff) at BA read this forum...
Just got an e-mail saying they will pay the claim via a cheque...
How odd is that...
I should post here more often if it speed sthings up...0 -
I think I have good grounds for a claim regarding cancellation of a flight from Newcastle to LHR in 2007. The flight was due to take off at 7am and on waking at 4am to travel to airport received a text from BA telling me the flight was cancelled. This had big implications as the 4 of us (two adults, a child, and my elderly mother in a wheelchair), were due to board a another BA flight to Los Angeles at around 11am. BA eventually got us on another flight to LHR at around 7pm but we had obviously missed our la connection. We stayed overnight at heathrow, and were told to go to an American Airlines gate for 10am next morning but on arrival there were told this flight was massively overbooked. We were now very stressed and tired and well over 24 hours behind schedule, and it was only when I pointed out my crying child and mother in a wheelchair that provision was made to get us on that flight. We eventually got to la almost a day and half late. No reason was ever given for the Newcastle cancellation, and when I asked about compensation afterwards was sent by BA a voucher to use of our next BA flight to the value of £50, useless as we swore we would never use them again.
So I think I have good grounds here, the problem is I don't think I have any evidence, I.e. tickets, boarding cards, reference etc. do you think it is still worth me filing a claim.? Thanks. Paul.0 -
why was the flight from Newcastle cancelled?0

It will depend what is meant by "delayed due slot" if this was outside the airlines control then there is no compensation due
Yeah it was an atc slot, but my issue is that we could have made the flight at heathrow, but what I think happened was they took us(and many others) off the flight to allow them to put on another, earlier delayed bunch of people on our flight and put us on a later on. I hope that makes sense.

why was the flight from Newcastle cancelled?
It was never stated as to why it was cancelled. From what i gather from a friend at the airport, the aircraft was on the tarmac at Newcastle from late the previous evening, ours would have been the first flight to LHR in the morning, but it seems as if BA deemed the aircraft had more important use elsewhere, as it had took of empty that morning. Im not sure how true this is but we were never given a better reason. Fact is there were people going to all corners of the world that morning who missed their connections at LHR.0 -
Hi, I need some advice on a cancelled flight so hopefullysomeone can help. I booked flights from London to Bostonwith BA and have just received an email saying they have cancelled the returnflight. I have looked at variouswebsites which suggest as they told us more than 14 days before the flight weget no compensation but we were only told 7 days before our flight out toBoston which means it is completely impractical to get a refund and rebook onanother airline. The only flight theycould offer us was leaving the same day as planned but with a stopover in Madrid which makes theflight (according to my maths) 5h35m longer than our original flight.
Do we have a right to any compensation? Surely we must get even a small amount as a stopoverflight is cheaper than the direct flight we paid for. Also, this was booked through Travelocity, ifI can, would I have to claim through them or directly with BA?

your cancelled flight is more than 14 days away so no compensation
You could ask for the next direct flight (they may think they are doing the best by getting you back asap - although they 'may' not cover additional hotel costs if you have declined a same day offer)0 -

Thanks for your response, can you please just clarify if you think there is no point in even trying to get some money back from BA due to the price difference of the tickets.0
