Flight delay and cancellation compensation, Tui/Thomson ONLY
Comments

Hi
We tried our own way and got nothing from Thompsons but then we went through a company called HKM solicitors and have eventually got compensation. The solicitors are now asking for photographic identification of each party member and a copy of our bank card sort codes and account number.
Is this ok ?
Thanks for replys0 -
Wrong thread - should be on the Thomson one.0

We experienced a delay back in November (more than 6 hours from a non EU airport back to the UK) and Thomson have duly paid out the compensation due, but are refusing to pay out any costs.
We'd pre-booked (and pre-paid) a taxi to take us home from the airport, which arrived as per our original flight details, and was already at Gatwick when we found out about the delay.
As a result the taxi driver had to come back to Gatwick nearly 24 hours later and we obviously had to pay for the taxi again.
As Thomson have refused to pay any costs, is the additional taxi cost claimable before we proceed with escalating the claim through the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR).
In addition, can loss of pay be claimed back? As one of our party lost a days work due to the delay.

The fixed compensation amount has been calculated in order to take account of costs like these, so the answer to your question has to be 'no'. It is not worth attempting to pursue these costs.0

Regarding the above check your insurance policy.0

That's what I initially thought, but the table on the Flight Delay page of MSE mentions costs, plus compensation for a delay of more than 4 hours from a non-EU airport. Additionally because of the distance involved between where we live and Gatwick Airport, it cost us more than £200 for the extra taxi journey.
Will look into the travel insurance policy though.0 -
Costs may well refer to the court costs if you end up taking them to court (not applicable here)
Consequential losses are not covered by airlines. The contract with them ends when they get you back to your ticketed airport so no onwards trains, taxis etc
What they are liable for during delay is Duty of Care to provide refreshments/vouchers during the delay. If these were not provided you should send in copies of receipts and claim reimbursement0 -
Ok, thank you all for your help.0

As an aside, I can never understand why people do a £200 taxi ride to an airport, why not just drive and park? Unless you don't drive of course
If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

Personal choice I guess. We had funny flight times and couldn't travel up the day before, so the last thing we wanted to be doing straight after work was driving to the airport. And it saved taking 2 cars so there wasn't much in it cost wise.0
