No Euro400 is what you are due under reg 261/2004, plus the duty of care for hotels. If you had to pay for anything else essential and kept the receipts, you can reclaim those.
You maybe able to claim something for the baggage delay under the montreal convention but I ma not au fait with this.

I have receipts for some food we bought during this time, for the coach from Birmingham to Manchester so will put that in too

    Hi Dan05delaney,

If I have interpreted your post correctly, the following stands.

TC have really let the 50 passengers down who, presumably agreed to wait at TFS for the €400 being offered.

Did they forget to tell you that everyone who was delayed by 3 or more hours was also entitled to €400 compensation? In other words, everyone, not just the 50 volunteers.

You were messed about all night for nothing extra, the other passengers who were taken to Manchester on the same evening would be entitled to exactly the same amount of compensation.

I find this very disingenuous of TC as they were not being completely open and honest with you. Unfortunately it's a trick of the airline industry, others also do it.

You did them a favour, they then moved you from pillar to post all night, hotel for 5 hours, deliver you to the wrong UK airport, bus you back to Manchester after travelling all night and delay your luggage! TC should be ashamed on this occasion.

They know that you are not due anything extra, via the EC261 regulations, so you're going to have put it down to experience. Alternatively, you can complain to the CAA about the way you were tricked into this situation, but I doubt it would get very far.

    Good luck.

  • Thank you Tyzap,

You have got that correct, they told us that everyone who was not in the 50 would only get a voucher to use in the airport for food, but did not mention that we would all be eligible for the €400 anyway regardless of what happened.

Guess this will just have to go down as a very bad experience,

You can bet those that got on the smaller flight were probably NOT informed they were due 400 either.
Did they ask for volunteers as they are supposed to under reg 261/2004?
If not, include that in your complaint to CAA.
That is the point where you could have bargained for a higher amount. They cannot simply deny you boarding, they must ask for volunteers first.
So 3 concurrent disingenuous acts by TC.
    Appalling. But no surprise.

They initially asked for volunteers, but the rep spoke to us and she said they would be selecting Families with Children, Elderly, Disabled, Diabetic on the smaller flight and realistically we would not make the flight as we are a young couple, Had we known we could've bargained for more then we would!

I will definitely be putting together a complaint to CAA about it
