Not sure Watchdog is going to be the answer to anyone's prayers, all the cases they show were, at least last week, unresolved and the airlines were sticking to their defence of extraordinary circumstances. What it will show is just how difficult it is to win, the airlines are terrified at the cost, having never expected the Court to backdate claims, in England at least, by 6 years, a single Airbus 320 on a short haul flight at 250 e per passenger is 45,000 e and a long haul flight at 600e per passenger could be over 200,000e. Ultimately we will all pay with higher fares because the charter carriers, and they appear to be the ones in the firing line, simply don't make the profits necessary to pay these claims on a long term basis.

Do not expect Watchdog to answer anyone's prayers - I merely pointed out the programme was on as there appears to be posters who are wavering regarding legitimate claims. The law states that any claims can be actioned within 6 years - this has nothing to do with airlines or indeed Sturgeon etc. Monarch are one of the main airlines in the 'firing line' and the majority of their flights are scheduled. Their last year accounts blatantly state they have made no provision for claims. Ryanair currently charge an extra 2.50€ on most of their flight to cover their claim provision and by all accounts (typical of Ryanair) they are making a profit out of this as their payouts are nowhere near this 2.50€ threshold per pax. Most people (or at least 80 million of them) are prepared to pay this bit extra to protect against a 3 hour plus delay and, say in the case of Monarch, if they are not prepared to insure against or make provision for delays than I'm afraid that is their problem but it should not be mine.

MCOL is Money Claim On Line ie you submit your claim on line which actually 'ends up' at Northampton County Court. Once your claim is acknowledged it is usually transferred to your local Court.

The way i see it is this will make peoples holidays more enjoyable and reliable but more importantly it will make the planes safer to travel on which will be worth the extra pound or two.:A
