First of all you havent been scammed. You simply purchased a service you dont need.

    In regards to chargebacks:
Under the Chargeback scheme, if you dispute a transaction that's been made on your card, you can ask your bank to ask the trader’s bank to reverse the transaction and refund the money back into your account. This gives you extra protection if your card is used fraudulently.

Chargeback may also cover you if you have a consumer problem and can't get a refund from the trader, but you may have to prove there’s been a breach of contract first. For example, you may be able to get a refund if:
    • goods you've ordered aren't delivered
    • goods you've ordered arrive damaged
    • goods aren't the ones you ordered or are not as described
    • goods are faulty or are not of satisfactory quality
    • you don't receive a service you've paid for.

Always worth a try, but from the above it doesn't appear you'll have a great deal of luck.

I contacted them by email dcfc79 because of this term in their t&c's. I will follow up with a written letter but as I have not had a response from the email and their phone number goes to a dead tone I am not hopeful.

I realise that I have purchased a service I don't need and I only call it a scam as I do definitely feel that they are intentionally misleading people to believe they are applying for a passport. The link I clicked to 'apply now' actually states in bold:

    Complete your passport
    application or renewal online...

As I wanted a passport renewal this seems clear. I know that I should have looked further into the site and no-one can reiterate what a fool I've been more than I do myself. By the number of complaints of others on here who have also been misled into using the service it is clear that the company are aware that their site is misleading people. That is my idea of a scam although I know not everyone will agree and I know it is unfortunately legal although I don't think it should be.

I agree that chargeback is unlikely when I look through the requirements of it.

Just wondering how anyone else has received their money back from the company? At some point I am going to have to confess to my husband what an idiot I've been. I'd like to tell him I've managed to sort it out before I do!!!!!

The company (website) you paid money is less likely to issue a refund. They would say the usual blah blah - they have got it all covered under t&c's and you have understood and agreed to the same by reading it before clicking the tick box/YES button. It is still worth writing to them saying you are unhappy with your purchase of a service that you have genuine reasons to believe that they have mis-informed you. Please do keep the response you receive (usual blah blah t&c's quoted) and keep it safe in your inbox/files.

Do not worry - that is not the end of the world.

    Please do the following steps:

    a) Call your bank and request them to open a dispute on one of the transaction
    b) give details of the transaction (website name, date+time+ amount etc)
    c) Tell them very clearly the reason for dispute: Purchasing this service was as a result of mis-representation of genuine government service by using tricky wordings by the trader.

For details, quote as in example:

The website says, Complete your passport application or renewal online... could be easily mis-read as Complete your passport application for renewal online

You may not get an immediate refund but there is still light at the end of the tunnel. Wait for an outcome from the bank's end that would normally happen within 21 days.

I would suggest you put the above in writing to the bank or CC company and send a copy of the same to OFT tranding standards as well. Please do not forget to include the reply you got from the company.

Rip off britain as on yesterday and this exact website feature on it. Would stay well away from it. Completely useless. Charging you for a free service is stupid.

Thank you hpuse, that is exactly the kind of response I was hoping for. Some constructive steps I can take.

Zabi89, I agree. It shouldn't be legal for this kind of site. I've put a warning on all my social network sites asking friends to share and I will send a letter to local mp but whether it will do any good I don't know. As if anyone would pay £69 for someone to fill in a form. The citizens advice would do it for free for anyone not able to do it themselves.

Well, it's already been featured on TV. This will help a lot of people who could have been scammed by them. They would argue it's not scamming but it is! Why should they charge you an extortionate amount for a FREE service.

You weren't scammed, tghey offered a service and you stumped up the cash.

The site even says " Our services are not in any way affiliated with any UK Government body including HM Passport Office ".

People just need to read things.

Its not a scam though! The may it very clear on their website whiat service they offer. Only takes 10 seconds to read that they are only a check and send service.

Check and send isnt a free service though! Granted, not everyone needs it, but its certainly not free.
