Sorry - that was just another spell error that shouldn't happen like people clicking uk-passport.net.
People 'clicking uk-passport.net' isn't like a 'spell error'.
You may think it 'shouldn't happen' (and I wish these companies didn't exist) but they do exist and they are legal and until something is done about them, then lots of people will continue to pay money for goods/services that they could have got free or cheaper.
A 'spell error' such as mis-spelling 'because' is unlikely to cost anybody money.0 -
I wish I had read this link yesterday. I have been scammed by them also. And I do mean scammed so would rather the rude know it alls who reply I should know better and all the other sarcastic comments that have been made to others please don't try to 'help' my stupidity.
I too searched google for passport renewal and clicked on passport uk's website which does state 'click here to renew passport' and a huge apply comment.
There is a disclaimer lower down on the page but there is no reason to scroll down to see it which is clearly how they con people and is in my opinion misrepresentation.
I have paid £69 which as I have not renewed for ten years seemed like the right amount and didn't set off alarm bells. I was watching 'Rip off Britain' when this company was named this morning and realised that I had been a victim. I had tried to call them to complain and ask for a refund but the calls go to a dead tone. So I have sent an email detailing my issues.
This may not be fraud technically but it is definitely misrepresentation of service. I clicked apply for renewing a passport. It did not state anywhere that it was for paperwork to be filled in.
Can anyone let me know how they received a refund? What did you need to do to get your money back? I really can't afford to lose £69 on this company.
Please don't send replies saying I should read the site properly or any other reasons why I was stupid. I know them all. I just want to know how to get a refund.0 -

Are you talking about https://www.passport.uk.com?
If so, you only options are to ask them for a refund, which is not likely to be fruitful, or speak to your card issuer about a possible chargeback.
Some people have reported that a chargeback has worked for them, but I cannot recall whether it was with the company mentioned.
MSE have published a guide on Chargeback:0 -

an email wont do much good, write to them or contact your bank, why on earth dont people use the post office or use the paper form for passports.0 -

I'm not going to say anything about stupidity in using these types of websites as I can understand how people do get caught out.
But I do think once you realised your mistake it would have been very sensible to check the T&Cs.
You may even have managed to get your refund request in before they started processing.
They clearly say 'contact us in writing', so there was no point in ringing them.
You say you sent them an email.
Have you sent your email to the address they give?
If not, I'd advise you to send another to the correct address.
If you didn't use UK-passport.net, you need to check the T&Cs of the website you did use.0 -
Pollycat, I don't think Least used either of the websites you or I mentioned, because neither of them charge £69... the amount Least claims to stand to lose.0

Oh well, nothing like wasting your time giving advice to someone who doesn't give you the full story. :rotfl:
That seems to happen a lot on here - people only tell you what they want to tell you (or tell enough that they hope to hear the answer they want to hear). We need facts, not emotions. (I might have to add that to my signature!)1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -

There appears to be at least 4 of such cony sites. Which one did you get trapped in?
Have you reported the matter to the bank or card company?0 -
Thanks for all the genuine help. I am really worried. The company was passportuk.com
Pollycat and wtfh, my apologies for not being perfect and forgetting to put the name of the actual website on for you. And sincere (well not really sincere as you appear quite nasty) for being emotional about losing my hard earned money to a scam. Probably better if you don't try to help me. Remember the old adage, if you have nothing good or positive to say please keep quiet.
Sorry for those who are actually trying to help me. I never know why people leave condescending messages for people who already know they have been an idiot. Seems to happen a lot on these forums.
The terms and conditions appear to basically state that I have no right to cancel as they will state that they have started services immediately.
You have the right to cancel your order for services within a statutory 7 working day cooling-off period except where the provision of such services commences within the cooling-off period. In these circumstances your right to cancel under this provision shall end as the said service will have deemed to have been provided.
If you are contracting as a consumer, you may have a statutory right to cancel a Contract at any time within seven working days of making your order under the Distance Selling Regulations. However, due to the nature of the Service which we provide, we will begin to provide the Service to you much before the end of this seven working day period.
By making your order with us and completing the Application form you are therefore providing your authority to us to begin providing our service straight away which means that you will not have the right to cancel your contract with us once you have made your order.
You will not be entitled to any refund of the money you have paid to us in accordance with condition ‘f’ unless we have been unable to deliver the Service to you, in which case we may refund all or part of the money paid at our absolute discretion.
I contacted the bank Monday morning who said the payment was pending so couldn't be stopped but I could contact them again when payment taken. This is what I really wanted help with. On what grounds could I get a chargeback. I'm assuming stupidity and falling for a legal misrepresentation is not going to cut it.
I called them so that I could notify them to stop the processing while I put it in writing. I then followed up with an email which I will follow up in writing. Any other tips. £69 is a lot of money to complete paperwork for me if it was a genuine site!!!0
