New to Uk - getting into the system / JSA?

my GF has moved to UK from an EU country with a view to taking up paid employment once a suitable role is found.
I know she needs an NI number and am aware how to get that on its own. Someone told me she could claim JSA but I am not sure if this is true as she won't have paid any NIC's as never lived or worked here.
If she can claim JSA then I know she can get the NI number as part of that process.
Any ideas on whether it is worth a JSA claim or if it will just be thrown out? If not I will just go down the simple NI number request.
Thanks

An EU citizen can't simply claim JSA without having worked here.0

She will need to pass the habitual resuidency test.

I take it that you will be supporting her while she is looking for work, she can't expect to be given any benefits that she hasn't been paying in for.
There is a very hight rate of unemployment in the Country as you are aware, it would not seem the best time to be migrating to another country, when residents can't get work.
Maybe that's the problem.0 -

Yes I work.
Why would your girlfriend come to this country and NOT live with you? Isn't the reason for her coming here to be with you?DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

Yep of course I am happy to support her and yes I work myself, I just need her in the NI system and IF there is anything she can claim (I suspect not) then to go down that path as well.0 -

Yes it is part of the reason she has come to the UK, but the UK employment opportunties for her career far outweigh those in her home country. Unfortunately my location for my work is not as good as London is for her so this is why we may not live together. BUT we at least be in the same country which is a start.0 -

She has a very distinct set of skills which are in demand so getting work shouldn't be a problem and absolute worst case she doesn't work and I support her.0
