  • May I ask what these skills are? Is she not able to get a job using those skills in her own country.
I have to say, it is only an observation but do you not think that any British people would have these skills, and my also be wanting these jobs.
As someone said, it is odd that she is coming over her only to work, not to be with you.

Yes she had a job using these skillls in her own country. Of course there are English people with some of these skills and they are indeed free to apply for the same roles and go up against the competition from everyone else who is eligible to work here, just like they are free to go to her country if they so wish and to apply for the job she has vacated.

She is not coming just to work here, it might just work out that we cannot be together immediately but this is something I have pushed as I want her to be happy and succesful in her work/career so I can retire early and play with my wood.

I am still curious as to what these special skills are that are so unique that she wishes to work here.
Sorry if I offend, but I and many others do have a problem with people from Eastern Europe taking jobs away from British workers, sometimes because they bargain for the work by offering to take a lower salary just to get the job.
I am not suggesting that she has that intention, but as GB is in such a bad state on the employment front, you can understand why people think that way, and feel resentful of their intentions.
I don't know how long she would need to work before she could claim any benefits, but once that time has been reached there would be nothing to stop her living off benefits and staying here indefinitely without having paid much into the system.,
The pot is slowly emptying, and allowing others to come and take from it only reduces the amount for those who have lived and worked here all their lives and are having to go without to fund those who are not really justified in receiving any benefits.
I don't know how old she is, but I have worked since the age of 18, and when I retire I will get the same pension as she will if she stays here and has paid taxes for long enough, yet the difference in contributions would be massive. Her previous taxes were paid in her native country, yet we will foot the bill for her old age out of a very small contribution.

I have ummed and ahhhed about putting in my two-peneth worth but for what it is worth here goes...

I applaud you for giving what sounds like a loving relationship a go (not easy to find and maintain long distance).

Your GF has every right to come here, work and contribute to the UK economy and I wish her every success, many UK nationals are doing the same in other countries so what is good for the goose is good for the gander and all that!

I wish you good luck and every future happiness.

That is very harsh ! So she has no right to join her husband in his country ? While she is here she intends to work which is a good thing.Well done to her. If only we had more like her.

    I 100% agree with you .

All these benefit cuts to people who have paid into the pot but they let foreigners come in never having paid a penny take a share .
Wins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.

What share ? I thought foreigners cannot come in and claim benefits unless the rules have changed.

They can after they have worked for a certain length of time they will be considered as contributing to our economy otherwise there is not point taxing them.
My beef is that if they stay here until retirement, their contribution is far less than someone who has worked for over 40 years, yet they still get the same, that can't be right.
If we went to their country I am certain that the benefits would not be as good, if they were then why do they all want to come here. We are the mugs of Europe, and have had that reputation for a long time.

Make up your mind, you said they are coming in and never having paid a penny they are taking a share. Now your beef is that they are working till the retirement age and getting the same pension as others. Your first point is not true then ?
