Complete lies from o2. I upgraded my tariff to one with more minutes the other day, and my minutes are still free.
http://www.o2.co.uk/mobilestariffs/tariffs/specialnumbers
They now say
"± The 20p/min rate applies on all Pay Monthly plans where customers have connected or upgraded from 27 April 2007 onwards, and calls to these numbers are not included in bundle minutes for these plans. Customers who have connected or upgraded to a Pay Monthly plan before April 27 will be charged as for standard UK landlines (01 & 02 numbers)."
So they acknowledge that calls could still be included in bundle.0 -

Upgrading your tariff and upgrading your contract are two separate things. I think people need to realise that.
If you upgrade your tariff, your minutes will still be included.
If you upgrade your contract at the end of your 12/18 month period, then, that's a different matter.0 -
I have just been on the phone with O2 direct asking if I could change my tariff with more mins and less texts. (my contract ends on the 1/9/07) They offered me one of the older tariffs which included 1000xnet mins and 200 texts for £40 per month. As it is one of the older tariffs it also includes calls to 0870/0845 numbers and rollover mins. I had to ask many times to get this because everytime I did ask they kept saying that I would be charged for these calls. It was only when I read them the teams & condtitions about special numbers, that they argeed and they change it for me. It just goes to show how different advisors give different advice. Even when I called back to speak to someone they still advised me that I would be charged for these special numbers, it was only when I started to quote what the previous advisor told me he then realised I knew what I was talking about and agreed that special numbers would come out of my minutes. I made sure the conversation was recorded so I least I have some come back on this. Its amazing how much conflicting information was given to me with regards to this!!!0

hi everybody,
Just a note of caution to verybody who upgraded recently
I upgraded for next 12 months my contract and asked to remain on old tariff with 0870/0845/0844 included on 8/06/07, which was alright.
I called up today re delivery of my new handset and there was one grumpy guy who told me that he is informing me that o2 will change its terms and condition for anybody on old tariff in near future and eventually they will not include 08 nos and because they r informing me now, i wont be able to cancel contract prematurely.
have any body else had the same experience???
thanks0 -

AFAIK verbal contracts are not legal in England, and o2 go by English law, so they don't have a leg to stand on.
However, I have never been told that by o2, despite upgrading and downgrading tariffs in the past few months.0 -

I upgraded my contract on 07/06/2007 and they put me on old tariff but more minutes and txts with cheaper price. They confirmed that 0870/0845/0844 is included. I've called them just now after seen your posts and they said yes, you still get your minutes included.
Do you think it would be better if i cancel the contract now under the change of mind reason or i can easily cancel the contract within the contract period if they start charging 08xx number? Please advise me.0 -

So it looks like O2 are getting rid of 0845 0870 numbers from your free mins bundle
Is there any network giving free mins on 0845 0870 numbers??

From what i have read it sounds like all the air time providers are doing exactly the same thing in getting rid of these numbers being free.0
