How clean is your house? Truthfully!

Public areas are usually reasonably okay, or can be made so in a hurry. Upstairs is very much a tale of two halves, one end of the house has a couple of guest bedrooms which are hardly used and therefore very clean and tidy. I can go weeks without being in those rooms so I usually need to hoover and dust them when anyone is coming to stay! The master bedroom is chaos as it's being renovated, as is the other bedroom we're currently using. The basement is generally okay and has the world's most forgiving carpet which hides the dust. My biggest gripes are the living room and stair carpet which are worn and look permanently grubby, and the kitchen island which is just a magnet for clutter.0

We've lived in our house for six months now and I've got to be honest it is kept very clean. Admittedly that is mainly because of me (honest!) as my husband is rather untidy, but a gentle nudge or reminder and despite the huff or roll of the eyes he does it.
Sometimes we have a bit of extra clutter in the lounge, and once a week papers get sorted through etc. I hoover the lounge and our bedroom once a week at least! The kitchen work tops etc and sink get cleaned daily after tea and washing up. Our ensuite gets cleaned every other day and the other two bathrooms flushed daily but actually cleaned once a week as never used! Same with our two spare bedrooms, hoovered weekly if they're lucky.
Having a full time job which we both do, or part time or having children I can see how easy it is to get untidy and find it difficult to find time to clean, but for now as its just us two I'm keeping it as clean as possible!!Married my wonderful husband on 8/9/12 :j0 -
I do not kid, it has taken me an hour to read this thread as someone mentioned hoovering so i got up and hoovered my bedroom. Someone mentioned worktops so i've just cleaned my worktops. T
Looks like tomorrow is dust cleanse day too.
As i live in a flat it doesn't get that messy really. Usually a 10 minute tidy up of my room is needed max and i never leave piles of things lying around.
I have a lodger but between us we're not too bad which is good! I always do the hoovering though he sometimes...well i don't know what he does but if i've been away for a weekend it doesn't look messy so i can't complain!Mortgage 1: May 2012 £90,000 April 2020: £47,000

My house is a dump!
Sadly, I'm not a very tidy person and never have been but I try and be clean - I clean the kitchen and bathroom thorougly once a week (so the floors never get sticky!) and wipe round the rest of the time. Hoovering is usually done once a week. The dust is part of the furniture now!
I have a lot of clutter in a small house, I did have a blitz a couple of weeks ago and got ruthless but it's starting to pile up again. Lodger tries to keep tidy but he doesn't have a lot of room for his stuff either.
The last thing we want to do when we get home from working and travelling is housework and weekends are usually taken up with other things, so from time to time, I have to take a few days off work and really have a good blitz but as I say, it rarely lasts long! I blame the cats...I'm not here much so it must be them!Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

Mine is OK-ish...I keep it clean enough to be hygenic (kitchen and bathroom get cleaned every day) but I certainly don't try to keep it spotless. It's a very big house, we have a lot of rather messy hobbies, three cats, two kids and really, it would be like rolling boulders uphill. Tidy is a relative state too, I have enough storage to put everything away but the rooms never look arranged, like a magazine picture. I go into some folk's houses and they really are spotless and the edges of the sofa cushions lined up etc so I suppose it can be done. Just not by me. If you come to my house you'll get offered tea in a nice clean mug (got dishwasher, thank God) a slice of home made cake and there will actually be space on the sofa to sit down, wonky cushions or not. I think that's good enough tbh.Val.0

My house is Ok-ish but given that I have three hoarders and two dogs to get it spotless and keep on top of it is a full time job but as I have to work that's not happening. Though I make sure I do the kitchen everyday and hoover through down stair.0

I find it really hard to motivate myself to clean the house to a standard better than just acceptable
but I keep trying
Once, in a desperate attempt to improve my standards, i asked an estate agent around to give us a valuation in a couple of days time...not clever..he wouldnt leave us alone for months afterwards and my friend nearly laughed herself sick when I told her what I'd done...sighFight Back - Be Happy0 -
Mine's pretty clean and tidy, I love having a tidy house so I don't really mind doing it. But we live in a rented house and it really needs decorating/ carpets replacing. I feel like no matter what I do it always feels a bit grubby. Keeping everything crossed that we'll be able to move in a few months.0

I am having a proper emotional crisis over my table, probably just a bit over emotional due to my chest infection;
My polishing cloth leaves little fibers on my glass table,
So I’ve had to buy a little brush to get the fibers off,
And I can’t find my brush,
And I need to polish, but I can’t without my brush.
And I need to mop but I can’t find my bleach to clean my mop brush.
This obsessive cleaning rant was brought to you by asda’s own brand polish and (vanishing) bleach and one stressed out Lucy. Ugh.0 -

Step away from all cleaning products and chill
Have a cuppa and watch Jeremy Kyle, makes cleaning seem so not worth it :rotfl:0
