How clean is your house? Truthfully!

Like others have said, I wouldn't want to eat off our laminate floor! And the stair/bedroom carpet is currently in the inbetween state of looking untidy, but not sufficiently for me to drag the hoover out of the cupboard and deal with it. But, unless you were immuno-deficient, I think you could visit us quite safely.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Not as clean and tidy as I'd like it to be, but not a hovel either. I do a big clean of the bathroom and kitchen once a week and Hoover the living room most days. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0

When I was working as a journalist I once intereviewed a teenage mum whose house was utterly filty. I went to the loo and there was a used tampon on the floor

as long as you dont mind a few dog hairs mines fairly clean and its definately tidy. Mind you, hubby found some dust on Friday round the panels of the upstairs doors (the inner panels dont get done very often). This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Our house is always clean but definately not always tidy! Now this doesn't bother anyone else in our house, and they will quite happily invite unexpected guests into the house, where as I like to pretend our house is always 100% perfect (and therefore need notice for anyone coming round haha!) This obviosuly works as a friend yesterday asked how the house is always so neat.....when truthfully it isn't!

I'll reserve comment until I've found some dettol spray and a cloth.0 -
I'm not bad at clearing surfaces/hoovering the rugs/sweeping the laminate, that doesn't take much time. I hate (and therefore don't do very often) cleaning windows, cleaning the oven, and doing the ironing. At this time of year I often have clothes drying on airers at the end of our open-plan lounge/dining room, and its just tough if visitors don't like that.
I think our house was the most tip-like its been in quite a while just before Christmas, because both me and DD were very poorly with that flu bug that was going around, so we really just laid on the sofa with duvets for 4 or 5 days, didn't have the energy to do anything else.
We've just taken down the Christmas decorations and finished sorting through the pressies/putting them away, so my house is fairly presentable at the moment

Oddly enough right now my house is cleaner and tidier than it has ever been in its life. I decided to have an early spring clean and declutter. The kitchen is all reorganised, as is the understairs cupboard. Storage units in the lounge have been sorted.
The boys rooms have each had a major clear out and all new Xmas toys are now in their cupboards and under bed storage. Bathroom cabinets and storage done. Even the flaming airing cupboard has fresh towels piled high, loo rolls, household cleaning equipment and the iron stored away. My room is all neat and tidy.
As long as we dont move or breathe the house will stay lovely. If any neighbours or visitors look in the garage then boy oh boy would they get a shock. That is where all the clutter and about a dozen black sacks full to the brim with stuff not needed is currently residing. A few trips to the tip will have it cleared in no time.
I use to need about 48 hours notice of anyone wishing to visit so I could blitz the place to normal standards. Now people can turn up and it is not a problem. As another poster wisely said people come to visit you not your house. However I like my house clean and tidy for me and not anyone else.
I do admire people who can live in chaos though. My sisters house always looks like a bomb has just gone off. Clothes hanging everywhere waiting to be ironed. Kids toys all over the place. She is a definate 'take me as you find me' type of gal.The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0 -
It's ok as long as you don't look into the cupboards or move any large pieces of furniture !!!!:eek:0

AND as long as you don't look in my teenage daughters room

My house used to be okish for the unexpected call. I was full-time working mum of two young messy kiddies and couldn't afford a cleaner. I sometimes felt a bit embarassed, until I realised that most of my friends with children the same age also had places not so tidy when showing up unexpectedly.
I have now moved with a partner who freaks out when the house is untidy. He is very tidy and I am therefore putting more effort into it. I can now say that anyone can show up at anytime and it is likely to be make them feel inadequate!!!
The children are older, still very messy, but they have learnt to keep it in their bedrooms. I have realised that indeed, it is very much a question of habit and it is not that hard to tidy just after you've used something and if you always do the dishes just after your meal, you don't really think about it.0
