  • Aw thanks for the compliments, it was so tasty, had leftovers for lunch today :D

Kitchenbunny I used roasted yellow pepper, cooked shiitake mushrooms, cooked spinach, cooked asparagus and sesame seeds and mixed and matched for the fillings. I like cucumber ones too but OH is allergic.

Small spends tonight of 90p on 2 packs savers part baked baguettes, £1.49 on 4 pints milk, £1.98 on coffee. Made some filled pasta for tea (porcini mushroom flavour) tossed in olive oil and lemon juice with pine nuts and roasted aubergine. Also had salad and garlic bread on the side. Having a few drinks now with OH, relaxing as we're off work next week!

  • A plea to Florenceem to stop posting those wonderful yummy pictures of your tea. It looks so yummy and I'm now so hungry!!!!:D Either that or I'm inviting myself around yours.

It has made me think though that it really is the key to saving money is more veg less meat.

Quite pleased because as of next week husband 2b wants to give up what we call 'grott' (cakes, choc, biscuits) and tbh my daughter shouldn't have it either so should save us loads off next months budget!!;)

still on target for feb but off to costco next week so that could come to an end

    tata tess
    onwards and upwards
  • Morning. Just up and trying to get about after a night with friends last night and a bit too much red wine. The bottle we took was left over from Christmas and very nice, but I rarely drink and I'm feeling it today!

As for the weekend, I'm not planning on going shopping at all. I've made my mealplan for the week ahead, basing it on things we already have in so I shouldn't need to buy too much. I'll write up my full shopping list a bit later when I've had chance to go through the cupboards.

Tea tonight is going to be a toad in the hole with sausages and stuffing balls, and there'll be cookies & ice cream for pud.

    Have a good weekend, everyone.

i dont know if you already know this but keep your vanilla pods in a bag of caster sugar or even ordinary granulated and you will have vanilla sugar to use in baking as well as the seeds for the posher recipes. The pods will last for ages just top the sugar when the bag gets low.

  • My total now stands at £124.87. I have got to go shopping later though. I haven't got alot in the fridge at all and the cupboards are looking a bit bare.
Tea tonight is lasagne which was made and put in the freezer and chicken curry that was also made and put in the freezer. Everyone will just have to choose what they want. Also have some part baked rolls to use up so they can go with it.
    Well done to everyone else.

Well im a bit annoyed with myself in a way. I had had a bad day thursday and i passed the bakery and bought some YS cakes, which i shouldnt have, but thought hell why not!!! On a good note, i bought 2x500g anchor reduced from £3.00each to £1.89 for both and a jar of dolmio reduced to 50p and 89p on reduced cheese which was £1.87. So i thought another £1.08 on cakes isnt going to make a difference. My February challenge has finished. Next months starts today, so i will wait for the March challenge and keep receipts. I think im going to have to stop buying so much reduced things, although there bargains, im not getting through what i have and after reading a couple of threads where freezers have defrosted, im thinking i must use up what i have as i havnt touched any of the contents yet. Although i havnt thrown any of it away either.

Bluegreen143 and Florenceem -the food pictures are great- keep posting.

Just a small spends today as want to use up the fruit & veg we have already in before it goes off (already had to chuck out a manky kiwi):( So today just brought some sprouts and a paper £1.99 in total. Cant help feeling as if we may run out of fresh stuff as always spend a few ££'s on a Saturday and yet even without buying today we have in potatoes, carrots, onions, swede, sweetcorn, peas, a few mushrooms, half a cabbage, 2 leeks, pears, oranges, apples, few grapes, tomatoes, bit of watercress, a few tomatoes and 3 pomegranites which have been in for weeks and are still fine as had one last night!!! Its quite easy to see after typing the above that I do NOT NEED any fruit & veg for a few days at least.
Nice sunny but cold day here today in the Midlands and washing has been out since this morning and is almost dried :) possibly first time this year that's happened. Maybe just maybe spring is on its way.
