Just a small spends today as want to use up the fruit & veg we have already in before it goes off (already had to chuck out a manky kiwi):( So today just brought some sprouts and a paper £1.99 in total. Cant help feeling as if we may run out of fresh stuff as always spend a few ££'s on a Saturday and yet even without buying today we have in potatoes, carrots, onions, swede, sweetcorn, peas, a few mushrooms, half a cabbage, 2 leeks, pears, oranges, apples, few grapes, tomatoes, bit of watercress, a few tomatoes and 3 pomegranites which have been in for weeks and are still fine as had one last night!!! Its quite easy to see after typing the above that I do NOT NEED any fruit & veg for a few days at least.
Nice sunny but cold day here today in the Midlands and washing has been out since this morning and is almost dried :) possibly first time this year that's happened. Maybe just maybe spring is on its way.

Spent just under £25 today, bought ourselves a chicken (to be stretched over the week), the accompanying veg (well, some carrots and lettuce for OH, I have loads in the freezer), bin bags and some basics for the cupboards. Seems a lot of money for the amount, but I have to keep reminding myself how many meals that chicken will make! Just a couple of other little things (sandwich bread etc) to get on Monday and we'll be set for another week under budget! :)

Big butchers shop done which included a kilo of sirlion steak, 2 kilo chicken breasts, a kilo of diced pork, kilo of sausages, 5 steak burgers, 1/2 kilo of beef skirt (never used it before), bread rolls and 12.5 kilo sack of spud and a 2.5 kilo chicken for just over £80. All split into portions and frozen. Also big mr T shop so hoping will only need veg/fruit top up. With other shopping for this month already purchased currently have £125 of my £450 budget left.

Dd1 who is 10 has decided to go veggie so various soya mince n quorn items purchased. Made big batch of veggie bolognase today so will portion that up to use for lasagnas, spag bol n enchillatas for her.

Also did a bit of baking yesterday so plenty of flapjacks, triple choc bread and even an bit of crumble left.

its going to be tight. just did my weekly shop and i have 53 pounds left until the end of the month. there is one more shop to do next saturday. its quite possible to do it but will need careful planning. if i spend 53 or less then this month i will have managed on 250 pounds for 2 adults and 2 children with my eldest and her boyfriend coming for a meal once a fortnight.i did spend over 500 so this is amazing.
    come on....i can do this

Yes great butchers and own stock, they have their own crocodile farm too. To be honest not even that much more expensive than supermarkets but far better quality :-)

We've kinda blown the budget for Feb. Currently at approx £380 and I run it to last day of the month! This is mostly due to having a friend come stay for a few nights. I let DH do the shopping for this which is always a bad idea if we're trying to stick to a budget :(
I don't mind too much though as we had some lovely food, and still have some smoked salmon and lovely cheeses left over in the fridge and a couple of very nice evenings to show for it.

The plan for the rest of the month is to keep spends as low as possible to minimise the damage. We will have a fair bit left to get though as we go through a lot of fresh fruit and veg, and we are on our last milk now too.

Off to mealplan for the rest of the month so I can try to work some magic.
  • Today has been the long-awaited NSD I was hoping for! On the bonus side I have gone through my baking cupboard and had a bit of a sort out and stock take and I find myself a lot better off than I thought. Now all I need to do is go through the index and other recipe sites to see if I can find a recipe for a poppy seed loaf, and I'll give it a go.

Dinner is in the oven, along with some extra stuffing balls and sausages for snacking/sandwiches and also to make into tomorrow night's meat feast pasta bake. Yum! I'm also going to slow cook a gammon shank I've had in the freezer for a while tomorrow for meat.

    Have a lovely evening, everyone.
