hmm there really needs to be a manual for this sort of thing :)
I dont want to ask if its the wrong / stupid thing to do.
Though I dont want to not ask and then get on the wrong side of anyone.

Like you say MJMum, we have lived together for 3 years, and been together 4 so its not like asking permission to move out or anything.

What about taking GF for a nice romantic picnic and asking her, just the two of you, relaxed, nice food, maybe some wine and the gorgeous weather, ohh maybe a sunset walk or something?
    Good luck

DH proposed to me in Cafe Florian on a misty morning in Venice.
I nearly fainted with joy.....and then REALLY swooned when I saw the bill for a couple of pastries and 2 coffees.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I really appreciate it.
I know my GF has always wanted to go to the Eden project, so I am now thinking of finding a nice place near there, like Padstow?
So a nice day at the Eden Project, nice meal in the evening, and a walk on the beach for the proposal?

    Any thoughts?

We stayed in the cleanest most peaceful caravan site near that area. Its called sun valley and it is lovely(static caravans). It is just around the corner from the gardens of heligan which im sure she will fall in love with. I suggest going there first as i think it could even be more romantic than eden.

My husband proposed to me in Verona, half way through a trip round Rome, Florence, Verona and Venice.

He had been carrying the ring with him the whole time. Apparently He put it in the hotel safes (for some reason, i never needed to go in the safes so didn't know the codes) and had decided that Verona was going to be the place to do it (home of Romeo and Juliet, so v romantic).

It is easy to do if the girl isn't expecting it!

As for somewhere in this country, how about on a beach or pretty countryside after a walk and a picnic? This would work well if the girl doesn't like big scenes.........
