Food price hikes!!

  • Had my last visit to Tesco last week having noticed the bags of grated cheese went from £2.09 to £3! Been going to Tesco for 20 years but now shopping at Aldis and saved loads.

Unless we start to boycott this store they will continue with the price hikes.
  • Tesco should be ashamed of themselves. The way they have hiked up their prices is disgusting. We ventured in there for the first time in a while and I was gobsmacked. Needless to say we did not buy much. I noticed their cat litter, that was £1.57 a bag in about October/november went up to £1.79 in December and is now £1.99!.

We actually do most of our shopping in Aldi now. They stock some really good quality items and the prices (on the whole) are much better.

I nearly passed out in Tesco today when I saw the price of a 4 pack of Princes' Tuna - £7.99!!!!!!!

Princes Tuna in Brine 160g was 2 tins for a £ in Poundland on Friday.

Haven't bought tuna in Tesco for over a year now.

  • I red all this thread and all I can say is that DONT get grayted cheese its much more expencive! You can buy a chees grater at PoundLand for 1.00 and grete it yourself much cheeper.

The Value Grated Cheddar which was £2 (per 500g) (and cheaper than block cheddar) has gone up to £3 (per 500g).

Value processed cheese slices up from 50p to 81p to 89p back to 81p.

They cover the cost of their special offers on a few products - by increasing the price on alot of other things!

It's the oldest trick in the book!

    They hope we don't notice!

Any price reduction on Felix cat food means another variety gets a price increase!

Nearly £2 per tin! But, maybe they'll be back at £4.00 for 4 tins in a few weeks as a "special offer"!

    ..

And it's £7.99 for a 4 pack of 160g tins. But they still sell single 185g tins of Princes Tuna for £1.99, so you could buy four of those and get 15% more tuna by paying 4p less.

Or you could save even more by buying Princes Tuna Chunks in Brine (3x80g) for £2.25. That's only £9.38 per kg, instead of £12.48 per kg for the 4x160g variety, or £10.76 per kg for the single tins, and have the convenience of 'easy to open ring pull cans'.

None of this pricing makes any sense to me.

freind on fb whinged everything in tesco has min price £1
Yes, on veg. this is very true. Teeny tiny little bags for £1.

Well, GYAC Tesco - your £1 bags of whatever are 69p or 79p in Lidl, plus we usually get an extra 50g for that price. Don't think we haven't noticed.

I only go to Tesco for yellow stickers and things that I can't get in Lidl - some of their prices are eyewatering.

You know this is so true. Sadly the media still keep referring to Tesco's prices being cheap. You have to wonder what dirt Tesco have on the tv channels and national newspapers!
  • I always buy tesco rubber gloves, when needed, and they jumped in price from £2.00 to £2.59. 59p thats ludicrous needless to say I'm looking elsewhere for them. we are now buying our meat from local butcher and are going to try the market for veg . we get some bits from costco have to buy bigger quantities but we budget for this and it helps to build a good stock cupboard. then i only now buy in tesco items that are on offer.
You can if you think you can .
  • The price hikes are all over at the moment and ridiculous, last Wednesday I paid £1.15 for smartprice mushrooms in asda and yesterday they were £1.50, that's crazy, and it's not like they have a loyalty scheme to be paying out on. I have a tiny shopping budget at the moment and had to put something back as I couldn't afford everything on my list. Gah sorry for hijacking a thread to rant :(
