Some really odd posts in this thread. Tesco is a business, not a charity. They (or any other supermarket) should charge whatever gives them the most profit at the end of the day.

You're right, of course. They will, and do, charge the highest prices that they can get away with charging. That's the nature of business.

The beauty of Aldi and Lidl, though, is that their business model allows them to charge far lower prices than Tesco and still make good profits. This hurts Tesco, because their customers are defecting to Aldi in particular, and once they've seen the much lower prices they're likely to feel that Tesco are ripping them off, and are unlikely to return to Tesco.

Some people will continue to shop there, whatever the prices. They think, somehow, that it's superior. What a joke that is. The prices are high, the quality's low, many of the stores are scruffy and unpleasant, and the staff are often unhelpful.

Waitrose might well be superior (though you pay for it) - Tesco certainly isn't!

You should count yourself lucky you still have them on the shelf!
My local tesco has got rid of value grapes, peppers and strawberries :mad::mad::mad:

I feel your pain. Ever since the value range was re-branded, we haven't had any value spuds!

are you a tesco bod in disguise....methinks you are lol!

Well then you should re-read my post since I thought it should be obvious to most people that my point was not about in particular business. Feel free to replace the word "Tesco" with any other store or business and my point remains.
  • Today I bought lots of things a lot cheaper at Iceland and slowly weaning myself off of Tesco. (we only have Tesco, Waitrose and Iceland in my town). Its a lot cheaper for thinsg like bacon, chicken, cheese, kitchen roll, eggs, loo roll, milk and many branded things are on offer. Goodbye Tescos!!

You need to calm down buddy. First of all, my post had nothing at all to do with customer service or dodgy meat, only prices. Second of all, I don't agree that there is even such a thing as a rip-off price, unless someone is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to pay it. Whatever you might think of Tesco, I've yet to see that happen at my local store.

    Irony....read it and weep.... lol

I'll repeat and emphasise the relevant words since it apparently is hard for you to understand what I'm saying:

"Feel free to replace the word "Tesco" with any other store or business and my point remains."

I've not now shopped at Tesco for 4 weeks and as a result of their Price Promise process can see I've saved £60!
    However,did you know that.......

"When you shop at Tesco, we’ll check your basket against the prices at Asda, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons*.
If your comparable grocery shopping would have been cheaper there, we’ll give you a voucher for the difference (up to £10)
To qualify, you need at least 8 different items and one comparable item in your basket.":T

It's only £10 but I wish they'd just offer competitive prices and make it easier for us.It's just another technique to try to justify their high prices. They don't make it easy to shop at their store and it's not surprising that their stores have such high personnel turnover. They always look so down-trodden:(

Just tried to put in a receipt from December to compare prices and this is the message I got..

Please ensure you have entered all values correctly from your receipt.

    I did,so they haven't processed it and I can't get the comparison.
