Nope, the whole process costs grocery stores a fortune they'd have to increase their prices. Taxi, push bike, Shanks' pony, car, bus ....

Sadly not that simple for me, I dont home delivery out of choice and lazyness its forced on me due to my health.

Are you suggesting one reason tesco is now such a ripoff is that even tho they charge for delivery the whole thing is to subsidise the delivery service?

Looks like it's meat, veg and fruit that are going up, I guess they fluctuate depending on the markets.

if you call fluctuating only going upwards then yeah :rotfl:

I've lost two stone and saved £1200 in the last year simply by following the nutrional needs mentioned on the side of the packet.
For example, no more than 55g of protein per day and 2000 cals and less fat and less salt and no sugar.
And definately shop around.Bananas in Lidl are still 68p kg, Tesco were 79p, and now apparently over a £1.

It's not just the act of delivery tho, it's the whole picking and packing process too so yes there is a subsidy element. http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/bills/article-2204908/Delivery-fee-online-groceries-hit-15-Experts-warning-shoppers.html

Tesco has been scalping in January for several years, IMO they profiteer simply because they can. Maybe they think we are all half asleep after the excesses of December and with seasonal vitamin D deficiency. They are probably right to be fair.

Doesn't anyone else deliver in your area, Asda or Sainsbury? Up to Xmas I was switching back and forth between two supermarkets to take advantage of the best offers and get my favourite products. You can use Mysupermarket but I tend to have two tabs open and cross check prices.

Despite the fact that we keep being warned about food price increases, for the things that I buy prices seem to have been generally falling slightly over the last few months.

How do you manage to make a 2/2.5 kilo bag of potatoes last for more than two months? Potatoes have been up in price a while.

Yes, the complainants (mostly) DO know the difference.
Tesco use genuine commodity increases, like for potatoes where the weather has definitely impacted,to justify large increases which are only part wholesale increases and then part margin.
They never ever admit this tactic.....I should know as does anyone who actually does know what Tesco pays growers for potatoes!
    Boycott them honest!:j

your theory isnt far fetched, remember the recent great price drop thing they did?

I remember prior to that price drop a load of goods were shooting up in price eg from £1 1 week to £2 the next then during that price drop they were back to £1 as special offer then back after to £2 as a normal price.

Of course its not just that I have seen prices just jump up randomly (usually in large chunks) not like from £1.00 to £1.05 always in large amount like from £1 to £1.50 and they stay there. Or sometimes they change to bulk only offers so from £1 to £1.50 but buy 2 for £2. The latter is very common with tesco, so many of their goods are bulk discounted (after a price rise). Its a real nasty to those of us who shop just for ourselves and dont have the budget to be buying so much food in bulk.
The reason for all this is that supermarkets employ marketing gurus to deceive their customers. They have to justify their huge wages by coming up with tricks to fool shoppers into buying their goods without losing money. It's not a demanding job either as they are lucky that people generally don't like to move their custom elsewhere so will continue buying with their eyes closed to convince themselves that they are getting bargain. The supermarkets should just honest up and sack these smokes and mirrors merchants. I'm sure the salaries saved will boost their profits without getting all this ill will thrown at them by those who are clued up to what they are doing.

This is my plan and actually has not worked out so far as I am not strict on myself.

I have far too much "stock" everywhere. Spent £652 in January for a family of four! Included alcohol, toiletries, everything. Too many bargains -especially expensive meat. February is going to be eating out of freezer and cupboards month with a low spend attitude for fresh stuff.

Loosely Meal plan around the meat in the freezer which is bought on special offer or whoopsies.

Make best use of Aldi Super Six and Lidl weekend offers as they are over the road from each other.

Use mysupermarket.com to order months worth of cheaper food compared to Aldi and Lidl and will always look for deals especially, cheese, shampoo, conditioner, coffee, Wash Tablets, Clothes softener, Toilet Rolls, Kitchen Rolls, Tooth Paste if they are a Savvy buy.

Used to use Costco for toilet paper and washing powder but cheaper in Aldi or Asda.

Will batch cook especially Spag Bol and use the freezer for everything I can't keep fresh any longer.

Use a list for fresh stuff such as bread, milk, veg, fruit, lunch.

I also use as many coupons as I can, and if I can combine them with special offers,

The more you shop the more you are likely to spend due to impulse buys - this is definitely me and have found I spend more on "offers" so trying to stick to my regime of : Aldi Super Six and Lidl weekend offers, Use mysupermarket.com

If there are any other tips to keep costs down do let us all know, thanks.
