Interesting for anyone planning/booked to stay at THEHotel this next year:

    http://www.vegaschatter.com/story/2013/1/21/141429/602/vegas-travel/9+New+Things+Coming+To+Mandalay+Bay

Delano taking over the property within the year....wander if prices/quality will differ?

when it was announced in August, it spoke of floor-by-floor renovations starting this summer... and the early expectations were that prices would rise.

maaaaaaan, that is worrying about the dollar!
Not sure what to do, article states they will try to lower the value to help exports, etc etc.... So its possible that the dollar will go below 1.50 or hover around that mark.... :(
I was hoping it would goto 1.57 at least, then i would buy, but was holding on for a 1.60 rate! boo hoo ! :(

Worth buying a few hundred today maybe ?

And after the wedding we'll be staying in Vegas for another 10 nights or so. Now we're thinking we'll stay 6 or 7 nights at the Excalibur to save some cash and then the last few nights at somewhere a bit more swish.

Ok scratch the Excalibur idea! Caesars have a semi-annual promo going on so I have just booked Ballys for 6 nights with checkout on the 19th for £270 inc taxes, about the same price as I was being quoted at the Excalibur.

I am trying to search for prices for the second half of the trip with check in on the 19th and I keep getting an error saying I already have a reservation for the dates I've selected and to log out if I require additional reservations. I get the same error if I change the check in date to the 20th. I have emailed them to ask, their response time is noted at 3-5 working days :rotfl:
In the meantime does anyone have any ideas?

I wonder if you're only allowed one reservation per promo offer or something?

Off to hunt for offers on some other websites while I wait for their answer...

are you logged into Total Rewards? Normally you will get that error if (I think) you do not have 3 days between your bookings if there's any sort of TR discount/comps applied - at least that has been our experience...I haven't looked at the promo you mention to see if there are any T&Cs there that would prohibit making a 2nd booking straigth after the first, but if not, if there are 2 of you, you could book the 2nd lot under the other person's name?
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

    Thanks ferf,

I am logged in, I've only just signed up so the only offer is the semi annual sale thing.

    All I can find RE T&Cs is the following;

'Book a room now and get 15% off your stay. Based on Availability. Black-out dates may apply. No other offers apply. Must be 21 years old to check in.
    Promotion Code: SEMI13'

Would there be more detailed T&Cs somewhere?

The dates I am searching for are all available on the promo calendar.

Sounds like it could just be as you say, must be 3 days between bookings with an offer. If so, looks like OH will be signing up too!

  • First day back in the office after 11 days in Vegas, for a variety of reasons hadn't been since Sept 2011, stayed in the Plaza, ok to a point, room was spacious and clean but did suffer with noise leakage from the Fremont experience, early morning was disrupted by the noise of coaches revving up in the bus station. whilst the Plaza has a hash house a go go and a few other franchises, it was a difficult venue for daily eats. It's had a $35m refurb which I don't think they got good value, as one local described it to me as "putting lipstick on a pig"! $10 resort fee which didn't give anything I was interested in and one plus free wifi throughout the premises.

Usually a fan of downtown but was also dissapointed as odds on the poker machines were worse than optimum, the best odds on Bonus Poker was 7/5, the California was 8/5 and the Strat was 8/5 with anything on the strip being 6/5, some variations showing 8/5 had only 1/1 for a pair/ two pairs. Didn't play them a lot which is unusual for me.

Fremont street had a fair few vagrants hanging around early morning in particular, but no hassle from them, saw several arrests in the evenings with one lot of detainees lined up on their bellies all handcuffed and their BMX's stacked up on the curb? Plenty of police about but not in your face and it didn't seem threatening and at times very busy.

Chinese New Year, Mardi Gras, Valentine's day the State of the Union and USA 7's rugby tourney and not forgetting cheer leader national finals all events on during my stay.

Mostly played poker in the Orleans, still for my money for a casino off strip some of the nicest cocktail waitresses in town.

Did a fair bit of shopping to renew my wardrobe, Timberland shoes $69.99, £105 here, Levis 3 pairs for $120, £65 each here. Surprise purchase was ceramic kitchen knives in Walmart for under $12 each, fancied trying them but didn't want to pay UK prices. M&M store of course for the PB M&Ms, still can't get them in the London shop.

Otherwise for me a fairly quiet trip as it was supposed to be a break, chill and relax. Will be going back in April after March madness for a bit more lively of a holiday.

I will be giving downtown a miss next time.

Flight back on Friday was interesting, VA to Gatwick with a load of passengers from a BA flight from LA which made an emergency landing in Vegas due to a fuel leak? we the got turned into Boston at 1am eastern, with a passenger taken ill, very ill I understand, we were only 3 hours late into Gatwick, but that was too much for some passengers and the captain basically had to put them straight over the PA for hassling cabin crew?

Las Vegas on TV update... a repeat, but I never saw it the first time round :) (originally aired March 2011)
    Channel 4 10:00am-11:00am Fri 22 Feb

Scott Sibella, president of the MGM Grand Las Vegas hotel, goes undercover to learn more about his company, and hears allegations that inadequate ventilation is giving some casino staff health problems.

Highest temp last week was 73f, several days mid 60's to 70f, supposed to be dropping into mid 50's this week.

I use the FOX5Vegas app on my ipad, phone as well I suppose, that has a 7 day weather forecast on its' drop down news menu. It's a free app.

The next 7 days all in deg f are 67, 65, 52, 53, 56, 61 & 58, cloudy most of the week, rain on Weds and a bit windy. At various times of the day they have a live feed which gives you a more detailed report.

I found on the warmer days I was comfortable in just sleeves and wore a light jumper in the casinos, even if they had the heat on. I didn't do much walking about as I had a car but did go in shirtsleeves when I was in Lake Mead N.P. with the rattle snake warning signs out! too cold for them to be mobile but warning not to go into dark caves or reach into shadowed corners!!! My daughter wanted me to bring her one home...... She did want a tarantula for Christmas, she's an angel really!
