No. But I have seen signs in Amsterdam stating the Dutch customs rules for flights from the US, and signs in Luton stating the UK customs rules for flights from the EU.
I think the question is whether connecting in Amsterdam = flight from the EU....if the passenger is just connecting in Amsterdam...or as the passenger originated in the US does that = a flight from the US.
Someone should ask phatbear as he would know for certain, but I would be inclined to assume the limits for flights from the US would control since that is where the passenger started out?Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
The Customs limits apply from the originating airport, ie the US and not the connecting airport.
We connect at LHR. That doesn't mean we don't get a duty free allowance.0 -
Would you not, being that you have landed in AMS, be guided by their customs regulations seeing that you could, say for arguments sake, get your bags and off load some contraband then put your bags back to be transferred to your intended destination. Or is that just too many commas, or too much Red wine
OK, sobered up now. It all depends on whether you have to clear customs at AMS or not. If you do then when coming into the U.K. you would be guided by EU rules, if not then it would be allowances from outside of the E.U.
But honestly I wouldn't worry about it, if you are bringing loads of clothes back then just dump the receipts and cut off the tags. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
Five mature guys, early. 50s, looking to go to Vegas for a week between the dates of 11th Oct. and 25th Oct 2014.
Would be very grateful for any advice re prices at that time, temperature those weeks, is this a busy period, anything really which the kind people on here think may help us out.
Travelling from Glasgow so any info on flights etc would be great too
Thanks to all
Keep an eye weather reports from now for the rest of this month, that should give you an idea of temps for next Oct
You can usually book up to 11 months in advance, bear in mind there will probably be Xmas/new year sales but you can't guarantee you'll be able to get the exact dates you want in sales.0 -
This customs thing has confused me aswell now...Are people saying that as we are going from Heathrow to Philly then onto Vegas we wotn have to queue up at vegas? Correct. We flew via Houston and cleared customs and immigration there. So were on an internal flight at our final destination and walked straight through.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. It'll be cheaper to book flights and hotel seperately, but if you want to book ahead and pay it off bit by bit then Thomas Cook and Virgin Holidays will have packages available already.
Some of the pools may have closed by then, but the halloween attractions should be up and running.0 -
You confused me, and I only flew from Amsterdam 4 months ago!!!!!!
I did separate flight from Bristol to AMS.....
then my flight from AMS to vegas with changeover in Philly....
Customs thing as I remember it, got questioned in AMS by security staff before boarding (US airways)
Got to philly, went through all the customs stuff there, had to collect bags, then put bags in one of those auto drop machines....
Then got on next flight (after some philly cheese steak!)
Got to Vegas, got off plane and went straight to baggage...0 -

a small point - but it's immigration that's likely to be the delay to queue up, not customs (well it could be both but the former is normally the longer, slower queue).but yes, when entering the US you clear both immigration and customs (in that order) at your first point of entry.
When connecting in the US when you first touch down on US soil you will have to clear immigration...pick up your luggage...clear customs and then and take your cases to the transfer area (normally clearly marked and there are people around to ask)...then you head to your connecting flight.
On the way back your cases will likely be checked through to your final destination, assuming you bought one ticket.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Immigration at MIA this summer was about 2 hours
They couldn't organise a queue at a bus stop. Every time we got within spitting distance of the man who stamps everything really hard multiple times, he went off shift and said not to worry but someone will be along soon to replace him. They never did.
