Surely not. Its the limits that apply in the country that you are entering.
I meant to say, that it will be the limits that apply in the UK to travellers from the USA. It will not be the limits allowed if you had just flown in from Amsterdam. Is that a bit better?

    A bit........ ;)

It also depends on where you go thru customs, and where you came from..... e.g. flying from inside/outside the EU different limits apply.

If you fly via Amsterdam, but don't exit thru customs, ie you just change planes, I *think* the rules for flights from the US apply. If you go thru customs in Amsterdam, then EU flight rules apply.

Surely, if the OP local airport takes planes from anywhere abroad, it needs a customs counter.

I'm just going by what happened with us flying home via Amsterdam and Frankfurt in recent years.

And, in my example, if you went thru customs in Amsterdam, Dutch customs rules for entry from USA apply there, and then UK rules for entry from EU when you get home.

    Phew.

I am sure it will have I think the OP just meant he has never seen anyone there, although that is usually the case at most airports in my experience.

No. But I have seen signs in Amsterdam stating the Dutch customs rules for flights from the US, and signs in Luton stating the UK customs rules for flights from the EU.
