See I'd take the opposing view and stay as far from the other hotel as possible to get a different experience - especially as whatever hotel I used I'd need a cab anyway.
The Orleans may very well be cheaper on its own site (and if it isn't they always price match) Midweek is often $29 direct for midweek. https://www.orleanscasino.com- rooms are comfortable and it doesn't have the huge check in lines -which for me after a long flight is important...and don't make you kick your heels til late afternoon to check in or pay an early check in fee either. Loads of good - and more reasonably priced food options on site too-so for a arrive at and crash option it works very well.
Also the MGM is massive -Orleans doesn't have you treking for miles through the casino to get to your room unlike the other options you've mentioned. Lower resort fee too.
Those are the reasons the Orleans is often my first night stop anyway
Oh and $7 for buffet breakfast the next morning doesn't hurt either
Interesting - thanks.
I didn't think check-in lines would be a problem anywhere at around 10pm, and also thought we might be able to do Luxor/Excalibur/Tropicana to MGM without a cab.
How good is the orleans breakfast? May be worth doing for convenience.0 -
For the price really good .....on a par with the mid range Strip hotels for half the price ......another one off Strip but not a trek I liked was the Palms .....much smaller but everything was very fresh.
I did the trundle the bags along the Strip from Flamingo to IP ......it was a pain dodging people and I wouldn't do it again.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Well you should come down to the pool now. 85 degrees sun is shining and me an Tracy have the place to ourselves.
We went down for a bit when we got back from Wynn. Not sure if you were still there.
On another note...our server at Wynn buffet was great today. We recognised him (not sure if from earlier this trip or previous trip)... well when we were on our second plate of food he came up with the champagne bottle and told us he was finishing shortly and gave us 2 lidded paper cups. He then filled our glasses and told us to put some into the cup...then again (so that there was 2 glasses in the cup) then filled our glasses again...he said this was just in case no-one came to us with a refill after we left. Bearing in mind we'd already had a couple of glasses and were planning on having 3 at most....we brought the cups back with us in the taxi.Took one down to the pool, never drank it all though. I doubt we'll manage to drink them lol, but very kind of the server to make sure we had enough lol.
Looks like another storm is brewing...I can't believe how much cloud we have seen this year. Hopefully this is the last of it though (if the forecast is correct).0 -
GeorgieGirl.....
Sounds daft, but no, cant wait until May! seems like forever away!!!(May 19th cant come around quick enough! hehe!)
as for Xmas time, my boss is talking about going to Vegas for Xmas, wanted to know about the weather, etc. think I've hyped the place up that much, he's telling his wife they have to go (he pays anyway!).
So hopefully he will go, and that will increase my Xmas bonus if I give him some good pointers!0 -

No, doesn't sound daft at all! How cool would it be to go twice a year, and especially at Christmas time?!
You should ask him if he needs a tour guide?0 -
whats weather like in Vegas over Xmas ? (xmas day and surrounding days)
snowing ?
COLD ? no sunshine or heat at all, etc ?
Raining ?
Only did one Christmas, the year it snowed on the strip. News report said over a 100 cars had crashed in various places. First time it snowed in years.
quite surreal everywhere and I mean everywhere was playing Christmas music, drove us nuts. Playing poker in the Excaliber and the music had a short loop, they had to take it off and put on regular music, not much Christmas cheer going around.
Don't really do U.S. Christmas dinner, went to a friends who did turkey, yams and the like, first time I saw a whole turkey being deep fried!!! Charlie had a set up in his garage (sort of crane thing for lifting engines out of cars) and lowered this turkey in to a big pot of hot oil. Certainly different.
Had a steak house dinner on Christmas day, very nice indeed. I was surprised to see Maccy D's packed at 4pm. Highlight of the day was 4 saffron robed monks queueing for ice cream at Dayvilles. It is certainly a once in a lifetime experience....but once only.0 -
penultimate day of work for me!
Can't wait to put my out of office reply on tomorrow afternoon!0 -
Does anyone have any tips / strategy / smart ideas about maximising holiday allowance over Easter? I'm thinking about 8 nights from Thur 17 - Fri 25 April, so that way we get 8 nights away, but only have to take 5 days of holiday allowance ... Plus the benefit (?) of arriving home by Saturday lunchtime, so still have most of the weekend to 'recover'?0
