Hi everyone! So I had been enjoying reading your restaurant reviews and the like - then you got talking about shopping! I hadn't even considered this... what kinds of things are you buying to make you need an extra case? And how much does the airline charge you for doing so?!
Thinking that I might have to only pack half of a suitcase so I can bring stuff back?!!!0 -
Make sure you make use of your carry on luggage allowance, even if its empty on the way over.illegitimi non carborundum0

I'm thinking about 8 nights from Thur 17 - Fri 25 April, so that way we get 8 nights away, but only have to take 5 days of holiday allowance ... Plus the benefit (?) of arriving home by Saturday lunchtime, so still have most of the weekend to 'recover'?
I don't know if it's a smart idea, but we're going the 16th to 25th for pretty much that reason.we normally go for 8 nights but occasionally if schedules permit we squeeze a 9th in.
we always fly home on Friday, land Saturday and then we know we have Sunday to relax a bit before work...I would hate going into work the day after we got home.
we didn't find prices over Easter were bad at all - really looking forward to it.
One thing though - we used to go to Vegas pretty much every Easter and while I agree you 'save' holiday...you 'lose' the bank holidays...You don't spend the extra days holiday...but you don't get a nice long weekend in the middle of a month...so there is a little trade-off as those long weekends breaking up a long spell between holidays are nice...if that makes sense...I think the holiday savings more than offsets the bank holiday loss though.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
I'm American and I have never ever had deep fried turkey myself, it is not something that is rampant with Americans but some people do prepare theirs this way...from what I understand though it's quite nice...crispy skin and moist meat. I love turkey, I would like to try it one day.
catmonkey85 - clothes, shoes (MUCH easier to get shoes for my heffalump feet over there), food, kitchen gadgets, electronics, you name it...if we don't have 2 cases each with our ticket we normally pack as light as possible on the way out...and as Froggitt said maximize our carry-ons...we can have a carry on and a personal item each with the airlines we fly...so we each have both for a bit of extra space/weight...we have been known to pay for an extra case occasionally - I haven't checked specific costs recently but used to be ~$50, varies by airline, etc.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Vegas for 50 days..wow! I've been three times now and absolutely loved each time. The last time I went I stayed in the Aria which was really nice. In terms of casinos I've always liked Caesars as it's central and I'm a fan of the Poker there..missed it when I got back so ended up buying myself a poker set so I didn't lose my touch! In terms of booking Vegas holidays Last minute and Expedia have always been the best for me and it's worth giving them a call to see if they can get it a little bit cheaper.0

Yes, we are Vegas addicts. Around 50 days twice each year since 2007. Being retired has it's advantages.0

I look forward to retiring like you then!0 -
Wow pebblesmax - sounds fantastic! I guess I should start adding more money to my pension pot!
Thanks Froggit & ferf1223 - excellent advice! I'm sure we've each got a bag allowance. Only thing is we're going to New York first so I will have to have some warmer/bulkier clothes - but other than that I will pack light. I usually only take a small bag as carry on - just the essentials like my Kindle - but I will make sure I put it in a good sized rucksack this time! I do hope I get some bargins! Although not sure hubby will be too happy if I do too much shopping!0
