  • Hi everyone! So I had been enjoying reading your restaurant reviews and the like - then you got talking about shopping! I hadn't even considered this... what kinds of things are you buying to make you need an extra case? And how much does the airline charge you for doing so?!

Thinking that I might have to only pack half of a suitcase so I can bring stuff back?!!!

I like going to Abercrombie and Fitch, and places like Bath and Body Works, the hubby likes electronics and computer stuff.

I don't know if it's a smart idea, but we're going the 16th to 25th for pretty much that reason. :) we normally go for 8 nights but occasionally if schedules permit we squeeze a 9th in.

we always fly home on Friday, land Saturday and then we know we have Sunday to relax a bit before work...I would hate going into work the day after we got home.

we didn't find prices over Easter were bad at all - really looking forward to it.

One thing though - we used to go to Vegas pretty much every Easter and while I agree you 'save' holiday...you 'lose' the bank holidays...You don't spend the extra days holiday...but you don't get a nice long weekend in the middle of a month...so there is a little trade-off as those long weekends breaking up a long spell between holidays are nice...if that makes sense...I think the holiday savings more than offsets the bank holiday loss though. :)

    yeah that's a good point... :)
are you booked up already, may i ask what you paid for flights/hotel, etc?

just trying to weigh up if prices are going to come down any...

the weather looked really good for the same time last year, so it should be shorts/tshirt weather and able to sunbathe by the pool?

I brought home 2.6kg in BBQ sauce last time :D:D
and 1 bottle of the good Southern Comfort (100% proof)!
oh and a few bags of Cheeto's flaming hot and other hot crisps! 2 suitcase job next time, more sauce for me! :D:D
oh, and the usual clothes and so on from the outlet places!
Defo need more suitcase space for your sauces from Walmart, etc!

That's a good point Stuie! I forgot about all the sauces, crystal light etc.
  • Well, not much to report since last night. We came back from Wynn buffet and briefly went to the pool and it clouded over again and another storm! Seems to be a daily thing unfortunately. It looks cloudy again this morning, but hopefully it will clear.

Last night we met up at Stir happy hour with Stoneman and nvh and their wives. Was nice to catch up with them all. nvh heads home today with a short connection in Chicago, so I hope they either catch their flight without any stress, or get put up in a hotel overnight and save their jetlag a bit.:) We have 2 more days....just hoping for some sun.

After Stir we walked over to the strip, decided to go into Planet Ho and get our Fresh Bar & Grill Groupon yard drinks. Well, they were certainly big but not yards. Had a choice of flavours and choice of 2 cups (about 2 foot rather than a yard, or a big beer bottle about a foot high). Well, we tried to drink them, we walked down to MGM with them and really just ended up with cold wet hands, drips everywhere and sore stomachs. By the time we were about halfway through them we dumped them as we felt so full. That said, we were pretty sober considering we'd had brunch (champagne had probably wore off) then 3 drinks in Stir, and then that drink, so the conclusion was that the 'yard' drink wasn't really loaded with alcohol at all. Walked back shortly after midnight.

As for shopping.... our cases are going to be stuffed to the gunnels. We only brought enough clothes for about a week, with the knowledge that we'd have a washing machine at Platinum too.

We've been out and about in a car, so we've been at both outlets in Vegas, the outlets in Primm, Meadows Mall, Galleria Mall and other shops in Henderson, Fashion Show Mall etc. I've not bought myself a lot, some sports clothes, about 4 tops, sports socks, a dress. We've bought a load of clothes for our nephew, and also some converse for my cousin's kids (converse seem quite heavy!), and some Christmas gifts although not a huge amount. Also Kevin got a couple of pairs of Converse, shirts, books, comics, dvds etc. We also got some towels and placemats for the house. And I bought a load of baking stuff which isn't really bulky, just icing nozzles and a few mini muffin trays, cupcake cases etc...and I bought a few plastic food boxes to protect it all in the case. I just hope it all fits in the cases. We've got a couple of other smallish bags with us - like a pool bag and a nike drawstring one, so we might have to use those as our 'personal items' and completely pack our carry on cases so they don't need to be opened. I've also got 2 wine glasses from The Wine Walk (they say 'wine walk town square' on them) so it would be nice to try to get those home.

Since it is cloudy just now we'll probably just eat breakfast and do some washing, packing, and hopefully then get to the pool. Ideally we would have sunbathed till 1pm then went for late lunch (I love late lunch as it's such better value at the buffets), but it might not work out that way if the sun doesn't come out till then.

"Medical" shopping day today. Then onto Fashion Show for Nordstrums shoe department, Tracy never fails to buy something from there.

Had a great chat with Lesley74 and NVH and their partners last night, also met Derek the GM of Platinum, he who gets us all really good rates. Got a bit of a scoop, the gang from TOWIE might be coming to stay next week for some filming. There will be pictures if it happens.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Converse are perfect for hand luggage, can be squashed flat and are dense. Last time my hand luggage had a tablet and four pairs of shoes in there. Doubt it'll be different on one of my upcoming trips :)
