    Hi everyone,
Just booked our first trip to LV. We've got flights, hotels and car booked but need a little help with ideas for food. (7 days visit)
I keep reading about 'My Vegas' what is this because lots of people seem to get vouchers etc?
We are on a tight budget so need some great ideas for purse-friendly eateries!!
    Thanks for any help :)

You don't say when you are going, but if you have a car and buffets will suit you it may be worth considering a Las Vegas Advisor membership for the buy-one-get-one-free buffet vouchers (also vouchers for other things and may be well worth the membership cost)...the 2013 membership is available now so if you are not going until next year wait and see what the coupons are like next year.

Ellis Island for the steak special or BBQ are good value, though the BBQ seems to not be as good as it once was based on our latest experience.

restaurant.com vouchers are a good way to keep costs down though the number of restaurants on or near the strip has gone down quite a lot recently...but there are plenty further afield.

Pebbles introduced us to the $7.77 steak special at Mr Lucky's at Hard Rock which we thought was a lot better than the EI steak special...and also to Weera Thai which was excellent value and very very good.

Earl of Sandwich at Planet Hollywood is excellent we think and good for a quick and relatively inexpensive meal.

There are plenty of inexpensive dining options but it's good to do some research up front as there are also a lot of fairly expensive options and if you don't know where to look you may find the less expensive options harder to find.

You could have a look here

    https://www.cheapovegas.com/cheap-meals

Ultimately you may find you will only eat one 'normal' meal a day like a lot of people...so that keeps costs down a bit. :)

When do you go? Which hotel?

The longer you have to play, the more loyalty points you can accumulate so you'll get the better rewards.

Also, its 3 rewards per person, so if you both play then you could get 6 rewards - which is potentially 6 free meals each if you go for the rewards which cover 2 x Buffets at the various resorts - though that could be too many buffets for one visit!
  • For that date there are no 5 stars and only one 4 star (on last minute.com) The four star is:

Walk in the footsteps of celebrities in this trendy and lively casino with a vibrant nightlight! This off-the-Strip hotel is known for its crazy parties. Don't worry it may be off strip but only just. Rooms are spacious and swanky with a super-sleek and ultra-modern feel

    The price is 106.24

I would rather not stay at a party hotel (I know that sounds weird, it is Vegas after all...)

Also it is our honeymoon, so I have asked my partner today to email all the hotels we are staying at and let them know that :)

I wonder if that's the Palms or the Rio.

We booked Palazzo on priceline for £75 4 nights and Venetian 2 weekend nights for £85. They have allowed us to stay at Palazzo the whole time (otherwise we'd be moving today). Try Priceline and Hotwire too. Also, if you have booked directly with Venetian on a cancellable rate, you might want to consider going through a bidding site for all 4 nights for a better deal.

Thanks for the fantastic replies. We go in just over 2 weeks, very last minute decision. I'm gonna try myvegas, thanks. We love a buffet meal so lots of your ideas will come in handy. We are staying at a travelodge and a wyndhams I think?!

    Thanks again. x

Wow that is last minute! Awesome!

The loyalty points seem to come thick and fast at first on myvegas, but to really maximise the most you can get in that time you'll need to join one of the myvegas groups and use the links people post to build up your chips so you have lots to play with - myvegas gift guides and giveaways is a good one, and they have tips on there for each level. I.e. which will give you the most lp's for the least chips, and the quickest.

If you can, leave it running in the background while you're at work or something? I think the travelodge is close to the MGM / NY NY end of the strip and there are a lot of rewards on for both of those.

Groupon also has lots of deals on for Vegas, as does Travelzoo's US Site so definitely worth a look on those.

    .

My money is on the Palms Harrahs group don't seem to appear that often and the Rio isn't really a "party" hotel (well not MY idea of a Vegas party anyway ;) )

I originally thought Hard Rock but after you said Palms that seems to be a better fit to me.

Thanks for the tip, I am in row three so we will be keeping a keen eye on them (although no doubt i'll leave none the wiser)
We were row 4 and expected the box to be used later in the show but it was moved by a stage hand after the last audience member left the stage then out pops teller.
