  • we're exactly the same... and have now been 3 times :D

i can thoroughly recommend the Vdara, it's not bang on the strip, doesn't have a casino and so is really relaxed... the rooms are spacious and have a really nice 'homely' feel to them. we usually get up earlyish, hit the pool for a couple of hours, go out for the rest of the day/early evening and are back in the room, usually by 10ish, sometimes earlier! but it's a nice hotel to come back to, because it is quieter and very relaxing. and it's connected to the Bellagio, so you can be 'on strip' pretty quickly. for us, it's perfect!

we always feel we want to try another hotel, but are so relaxed at Vdara, we've always booked there!

I'm going to the Vdara in May on honeymoon!

Any hints or tips? It was just getting built the last time I was in Vegas about 4 years ago.

I'm planning on doing that exact trip in May! Still unsure of doing the south rim or the west with the skywalk, decisions!

Think its like a 7am start then you get back to the hotel about 7pm so its quite full on but will be worth it hopefully.

We've got a car the whole time were there we were going to drive it ourselves, but its 4 hours each way and I'd probably spend at least half the tour fee in gas and be knackered the following day.

Think we'll give the tour and IMAX a go, just need to find some discounts now on the tour.

The extra two nights in lv are expensive as they are a Friday and Saturday. Might switch to an out of town resort for two days of chillin :)
  • According to Vegas Chatter, it looks like the zip line at the Rio will be up by the end of September!! So we might get to go on a zip line after all! Doesn't look like the one on Fremont Street will be ready though.

Yeah its probably worth it to just sit back and relax before you get there instead of worrying about directions and all that malarkey! Lunch is also included which again makes it even more worthwhile for you.

Having looked into it briefly think we'll go for the south rim through viator as the west rim is supposedly not as good and is a bit of a tourist trap.

I haven't been to the West Rim but everything I've read says the South Rim is the better choice if you have the time for a longer journey.

It took us nearly 7 hours to get to the South Rim - we did stop for a sit down breakfast, once for petrol and a few times on the way for photos, etc...we stayed overnight at the GC...I would not want to do the round trip drive in a day myself. It is an easy drive but mostly pretty boring - not a lot to keep a tired driver alert.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

    congratulations! you'll have a blast...

have you booked your room already?
it might be worth putting it on the radar of the hotel that you're on a honeymoon stay, they might upgrade you or do something nice for (hotel credit, champagne, etc.)

you can email guestservices@vdara.com, and maybe subtly ask if there are any services they offer (behave!) which would make the stay extra special for your wife (eg. champagne on arrival, etc.)... so you're not asking them for an upgrade, etc. but they're pretty good at being on the ball and making a note of these things.

we stayed there last year and the room was the nicest we've ever had in Las Vegas.

The only thing that annoyed me was that it's not on the strip. We found that the easiest way to get to it was through the Bellagio, go through the conservatory and past the chocolate fountain, or through the Cosmipolitan, go right to the back, past reception and go out through the car park, it looks underground but there's a side path to the outside

or you can go through the Aria and come out nearer Monte Carlo.

plus there's the free monorail at the bellagio/vdara walkthrough, which goes to the Monte Carlo.

although geographically it's not on the strip, it's very close, and not really different to being in one of the towers, etc. at one of the bigger hotels.

a 10min stroll from the vdara lobby, through the bellagio and you're on the strip.

Yeah it's booked. When do you think I should email? Is now too soon?
