It's unlikely she would just take the $20...but I don't like handing it over with our passports, I feel silly (and I know I have said before many times once a check-in agent said 'what is this?' and then I felt stupid and stuttered through my 'well...hrm....you see..if...I...but...' before I got something like 'much good room, yes, please, you give?' or something not far from that out - I was tired and my little planned speech just vanished - and I had not expected her to ask that question..I normally have it in my hand, visible, when asking 'are there any complimentary upgrades available'? They know very well if the answer is yes, they get the $20 without the super secret stuff. I know some are a lot more comfortable about it than I am. I do not mind doing it my way - just asking the question...you don't ask, you don't get after all. I normally know what I would like (within reason) in terms of an upgrade so if they ask I can say
A P-room would be a very good upgrade but probably unlikely...and yes you can see the fountains from some of the rooms at Paris - they are across the street.
but if you are arriving on a Saturday, please do manage your expectations on an upgrade...if I had to guess it will be the day you're least likely to be successful...I would go in assuming your success rater will be zero and you will be pleasantly surprised if one does happen.
Oh yes im aware it will be the hardest day and like it said we will just be happy we are in vegas! haha!!
I will just say is there any complimentary upgrades available on our room then or atleast a view of the fountains which we would be happy with!Halifax loan - 6800 - 198 DD a month
Barclay card 0% - £2000 - £150 DD a month0 -
nooooooooooooooooooooooo!
:rotfl:
Ok let me ask a different way, of the two I take it the Mirage is the quieter...right?
I don't know about quieter? Maybe a little bit I suppose, especially if there is a fight night or concert on at the MGM.
Like others have said, it's a really big hotel. You do enough walking in Vegas without having a really long walk to get to your rooms well! :rotfl:
My friend stayed there and she seemed to enjoy it.0 -

I ask for a comp upgrade but with a $20 bill showing on the counter, as said I did get a high floor strip view (which is what I asked for) but only a standard room, but I was happy with that.
Be prepared though as they may well ask what you want
Yes it may be harder on a saturday and for 6 nights but it doesnt hurt to ask, and no need to feel silly/embarressed etc etc0 -
Oh god! Never thought about what room i wanted haha!! I will try and research the rooms but i thought there was only classic and red rooms? basically a nice room with a view of fountains or tower will do haha! i will research as i've took up enough space on the forum for one day i feel
I'm just reading about a bar called dont tell mama which sounds like a great night out! I'm going to be searching everyday and end up like i was with the hotel rooms i expect, confused!Halifax loan - 6800 - 198 DD a month

If you are happy with a standard room but want a fountain/strip view (a strip view is classed as an upgrade) then just ask for that0 -
Not sure I am any the wiser about noise.
The Lobby? do you mean check in, if so all check in areas are busy, but miles from rooms.
If you mean casino then all casinos are noisy but again you wont hear that in your room.
Of course you may get noisy neighbours but that can happen anywhere
Asking for a high floor helps IMO
Lobby? Male multitasking fail lol
Mean hallway...
Im currently looking to see how much hassle its to try and get MGM and Mirage to price match Lowcostusa...0 -
I stayed at the Mirage for 2 nights last week. Would really recommend it, location was perfect and was really pleased with the room, very modern. We then moved to The Hotel and that was amazing but location not quite as good.0

you may struggle if it says call to book as they may argue there's no documentation that the rate is available.
From their claim process- This rate must be confirmed as available. One way to confirm availability is to provide a printout of the screen or a screenshot of the website with the lower rate that proves availability.
- Availability of the Competing Rate must be proven by an acceptable form of evidence (i.e. the credit card information page that shows the rate, room type, dates, etc.)
As for noise in hallways it can happen anywhere really...in general with neighbours - always a risk of getting a rowdy bunch nearby, regardless where you stay...I was woken up a couple of trips ago by a couple having an argument in the next room...so, naturally, I got up and pressed my ear against the wall to hear better.
One of the best quotes of that argument was
'some people are like oil and vinegar - they just don't go together'.
I would imagine that in general the more expensive the hotel the less chance of a group of rowdy youngsters near you...but it can happen anywhere...it's Vegas so anywhere can become party central really.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
I read up on the MGM price guarantee, I wonder whether its intentional that LCU says call - I've emailed them to see what the best they can do is and might give the two hotels a quick call tomorrow and see what they can do.
Don't ask, don't get and all that0 -
Why not split your trip between both the MGM and Mirage? Problem solved.
For You Tube searching purposes, the Executive King used to be called a Bunglaow suite and the Tower Spa a Celebrity Spa suite. The MGM only changed the names of the room types last year due to them being refurbished.
We avoided staying at the MGM on our first few trips as I felt it was too far south. However as we hotel hop and split our stay it suits us to stay there for a few days and stay somewhere more central the rest of the time, such as the Carriage House, Ballys, etc.0
