On the hotel confirmation email it states the room type, advisor even said he can see the issue as he said it should be the suite. If it sounds too good to be true.....

In that case I would argue at check in, that is what I should get, and you probably will.

however I would have at the back of my mind that if they don't give me it, I haven't really lost out as I have only paid for a standard room.

I guess if you wont be happy with a standard room (and they are very small at harrahs) you need to get it sorted one way or another before arrival

Judging by the trip advisor report Harrahs would not budge on the matter, i think my grief lies with travelocity. Not in any position to haggle anywhere else now due to the price increases on all hotels.

The travel agent did say that the Bellagio is nice, but she went on an "educational" to all the Vegas hotels at the end of last year and she said the rooms didn't have the same wow factor as some of the others like the Wynn and the Cosmo, even since the refurbishment.

That's a bit different from your original post

the rooms are dated and the hotel has had its day,

The rooms are not dated, they have all been refurbished.

However you have made the right choice as the Cosmopolitan rooms are far better than the rooms at the Bellagio. It read from your original post that the travel agent had said the room were old / dated when they are not.

The Terrace rooms at the Cosmo have a seating / lounge area as well as a bedroom area and also have a kitchenette.

If you want to see the Bellagio rooms they do room tours at 2pm each day. Just go to the Concierge desk around 15 minutes beforehand to arrange.

Yes, she did say they are dated, even since the refurbishment. The style of decor, I suppose she meant. The rooms do look very dark in the brochures and even on the hotel website.

Great tip about the tours, thanks. :)

Surely you can sue them if they (or their agents) didn't provide the room you paid for.
