We go to Vegas for the first time in 17 sleeps
We're staying at the LVH which is at the top end near Circus Circus, whats wrong with taxis going through the tunnel and would we need to go through it get to our hotel from the Airport?
for LVH the tunnel may actually be the better option, I'm not sure...far north properties are some of those where it's said that the tunnel can be justified...avoiding the tunnel means going surface streets so the farther you have to go, the more time you'll spend waiting in traffic on surface streets so the more the meter will tick up while waiting - when there is little traffic there's minimal wait time - with traffic it can tick up...taking the tunnel puts more miles on the meter so costs more in mileage but (generally) less waiting time...so it may depend on how busy the surface streets are as to how much of a savings avoiding the tunnel would be.
Personally I would tell the driver if you want the least expensive route or the fastest route...whichever you would prefer.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

To LVH its almost straight up Paradise, I think the tunnel is the opposite way but not sure.
LVH isnt really near to Circus Circus as its not on the strip, just incase you werent aware0 -
Re taxis long hauling. You don't have to say "no tunnel" that does tend to get their backs up because they know what that means. You could say "can you go via Swenson please"
I only said if that doesn't include the tunnel when she said she'd get is to our hotel a fast as possible. I usually do the VIA Swenson.0 -

I posted the same time as you with a different opinion but I wasnt sure as I have never been in a cab and havent driven through the tunnel.
If a cab goes through the tunnel, does that mean that they then use the I15 ?0 -

Yes it does which is why it can be faster if there are any snarl ups on the surface roads - of course there can be heavy traffic on 15 as well but seems to usually move more quickly if going a fair distance...we have been stuck in traffic on the north/south streets in our hire car so I know it does happen (this trip was Koval and Industrial/Dean Martin one was road works one was an accident)...but I honestly don't know which way is best for LVH...that's why we normally specify fastest (usually) or cheapest.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Thanks for the replies...we land about 8pm so I'm guessing the strip will be busy then0

The strip is busy all the time if you mean for the cab, but swenson and then paradise would mean that you wouldnt go near the strip0 -
pebbles, you should have told her it is your right to be taken any route you request. That is the law.
From the LV Taxicab AuthorityNote: Your driver may not take a longer route to your destination than is necessary, unless specifically requested by the passenger. (NRS 706.8846)
This is the number for complaints although you would need her name or badge number
(702) 668-4005 or send email to taxiauth@taxi.state.nv.us.
I have that number in my phone
We take a lot of taxis in Vegas as we hotel hop at least 4 times. We have twice had nasty drivers. One when we moved from the Bellagio to PH and he complained about getting a short run. The other was on the way back to the airport when he barked, "Call that a tip!" I was ready for him and barked back, "Is 20% not good enough for you?!"0 -
We have often had the taxi driver at the airport tells us the surface streets are busy or there has been an accident when I have said no tunnel. I just tell them I want to go via Swenson and I'm in no hurry. After travelling for 22 hours, saving 10 mins isn't going to make any difference.
I also agree with taking Paradise for LVH.0
