Thats shocking and it is what puts me off using cabs, although this year we are having to get one to the Orleans, in a few weeks, not looking forward to it

I wish we'd taken a bus. We rarely get cabs and often get picked up by a friend, but he was in LA this week. I'll be renting a car or getting the bus in future.

Saw this on Groupon today $69.99 for 2 tickets to be used in the next 180 days (20th September).

Haven't seen the show, sounds like a reasonable deal. Anyone know if it's a good deal compared to ticket booths etc? Also, will it include all taxes, ie would it only be $69.99 and no other charges (such as tax etc) added?

You can regularly find 50% off vouchers /BOGOF for this show - depending on which seats the Groupon covers it sounds like it may be the same sort of deal...pretty sure that discounts for this one roll on in time when they get close to expiring so may be one to wait on.

I still have no idea what upset her so much. Any ideas?

it does seem a bit crazy...in some ways I can see a taxi driver being irked being told not to take the tunnel as in some cases it may be the better option - but I also understand that they are not supposed to take people via the tunnel without explaining that it will be more expensive and many do even though it's illegal...we normally ask for the cheapest way or fastest way (to be fair we normally say fastest so do normally take the tunnel)...I kind of feel better about saying it that way rather than no tunnel but that's just me...in any event, I would not expect any taxi driver to react as yours did...that's completely inappropriate and really sorry to hear it - not what you want upon arrival...I wonder if she's been busted for longhauling before or something and was particularly edgy or something? Regardless, doesn't matter...completely inappropriate and stupid as she lost the whole of the fare.

Our driver was really good - he asked if we had a preference, I said fastest way, he said that would be the highway route which would cost a bit more was that OK...so he covered his bases and double-checked...we have found if we do not specify we do normally get tunnelled and they don't normally mention it's more expensive...so it is definately worth stating up front what you want them to do.

Pebbles - that's awful. As you say perhaps she was having a bad day. I think some of the folks in Vegas naively think that us Brits are over there on a once in a lifetime trip and that we won't have a clue. Good on you for insisting on it. Maybe you could have also reported her, but it's not really worth causing yourself extra stress over.

Wish I was in Vegas right now, it's cold and windy here, although hopefully the snow won't return!

    Have a great trip

Has anyone been to the Bistro Buffet at The Palms? Looking at the restaurant.com deal - $15 certificate $22.50 minimum spend (lunch is 12.99 so probably best used on 2 lunches for best value). Includes beer and wine apparently....so maybe it's actually better used for dinner.

Also while on the subject of The Palms - anyone eaten at Simon?

Thanks ferf - the travelzoo deal is $70 for 2 tickets, so the same price, but you have to select a date and time when booking, and they only have the next few months (def not September yet).

Still thinking about it. Might not be a super 'must book it now' deal.

We use a taxi from the airport every time we go,and I always tell them no tunnel ( except the one time I forgot, and DID get taken the long way)
Our trip a couple of weeks or so ago,we stayed at the Orleans, and the fair was about $18 before tip.
I think I would have got into a bit of an argument with the driver if she spoke to,like she did with you Pebblesmax. They are there to take you where you want, and whatever way you choose.I will continue to tell the driver No Tunnel when we enter the cab at the airport, and if they are funny,I will get out,get another cab and threaten to call the transit authority of their behaviour......Bloody Cheek.!!

The driver that picked us up at Mccarran must have been having a bad day.

Noticed the taxi drivers protesting by driving slowly up and down LVB honking horns, shouting about unfair work terms and waving banners.
It could be taxi drivers are just having it tough at the moment.

Maybe she was just sensitive to tunnelling stuff.

Either way there is something up with taxis there right now.

Re taxis long hauling. You don't have to say "no tunnel" that does tend to get their backs up because they know what that means. You could say "can you go via Swenson please"
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

We're staying at the LVH which is at the top end near Circus Circus, whats wrong with taxis going through the tunnel and would we need to go through it get to our hotel from the Airport?
