Hi KittieJ
What a great idea. I'd like to join in please. I usually buy a jacket potato with different fillings and coffee from the canteen but have decided to take my own into work this month. I'm also hoping to eat out of the freezer and cupboards until supplies run out - So I recon I can save £50 by the end of the month. I don't eat meat so will be relying on cheese left over from Christmas, free chickens eggs and times and pulses from the store cupboard.
Today is Watercress soup (home made from leftovers) Brie and salad. So not cost from the £50.0 -
Well done Florida! and what a great idea - read don't shop, I don't have that temptation where I work.
Hiya Fruittea :T welcome. I'll put you down for £50.
I notice you plan on eating from the freezer and cupboards, the only thing about people doing this which worries me is running the food stocks down too low and then suffer a catastrophe like the recent Nat West banking fiasco or if on benefits a payment doesn't come through.
If anyone else is doing this then make sure you have a little money put by somewhere just in case. I have heard of other banks having glitches during migration of accounts so even if you have a twenty put away somewhere as a safety net.
Sorry but I am a worrier when it comes to these sorts of things because many people in work were caught up in the NW fiasco.
Apart from that I hope you make lots of savings Fruittea :j and the soup sounds lovely.Karma - the consequences of ones acts."It's OK to falter otherwise how will you know what success feels like?"1 debt v 100 days £20000 -

Welcome MummyRivett  do you want me to put you on the list and if so how much do you expect to save?

Not back to work until next week so am making a batch of soup per day for the freezer to get me started. So far I have Mexican Bean and Tomato made and frozen and a batch of Spelt Barley Broth bubbling away on the stove. I can't believe how cheap it is to make a batch of soup, especially as I'm a vegetarian.
Well on the way to my saving, my only worry is the fact I like to go for a hot chocolate with my friends on lunchtimes and I'm not sure whether that counts as not taking lunch? I guess that normally I would buy lunch as well as the hot chocolate so I am cutting down and when I'm sat supping and gossiping I can't be out spending0 -
Hi Dee-Dee, I think it's amazing how many vegetarians there are amongst us
If you want to go out for hot chocolate then no-one is going to say you can't do that. If you are happy to make savings by taking your home-made lunch only then that's fine. It's all about whatever works for you it's not about deprivation.well done on the soup making btw :T

Thanks for the welcome and the warming KittieJ. Don't worry about my foods stocks - I'm a bit of a horder and also live in a flood area so I tend to stock up at this time of year anyway - but due to unexpectedly missing visitors this Christmas - I over ordered and am over stocked.
The worse thing is having 4 boxes of different chocolates - I'm trying to cut down on food and am not a great fan of milk chocolates anyway.
All the best0 -
Could you gift the chocolates to someone? If you have loads of food left over then using it up does make sense. I just read about those who couldn't get money out on New Years Eve
Hoping the poor weather leaves you alone too if you live in a flood risk area.

Thanks kittiej, I guess we all need our little treats to get us through and that's when I tend to catch up with my friends. I'm glad there are a few vegetarians - looking forward to getting a few recipe ideas from you all.0 -
Afternoon all
I was very badly organised last night but I have brought all my food into work today which is still good. Problem is, by convenience it has meant fairly unhealthy and I'm wanting to lose weight (gradually, I'm not following a specific diet, just going to watch what I eat). So today's embarrassing ensamble of food is/was:
Garibaldi biscuits for breakfast on the train, washed down with my tea in a thermos flask
Cheese in french bread topped with some hm chilli jam
I still have with me a couple of digestives that were for the afternoon snack and a chocolate mini yule log (leftovers from Chrimbo) that were to be eaten with lunch.
However the french bread seems to have filled me up so I didn't eat the yule log, and someone has brought some Christmas Cake in so that will be my afternoon snack instead of the biccies
So far, so good!April 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500
