My favourite is Asda SP oats. I like the texture far more than Scotts or Quaker.
Were you given a target book lush? I must admit I haven't really followed the extra HEXs thing for maintenance I'd rather have a few extra syns. So I've reintroduced some recipes with 'synful' ingredients to our menu as I used to eat virtually syn free all week. Things like cornflour or wine in gravy and sauces or a bit of extra cheese (:) HEA). I now (lazily) have McCain Rustic chips occasionally instead of making SW. I've also gone back to having a small juice with my breakfast as I missed it. I'm also not so careful when eating out. That's what suits me. I wanted to avoid introducing snacky syns (biscuits, sweets, crisps etc) as for me they'd be harder to control.
I did, didn't find it helpful in the slightest though! My consultant didn't even give me much advice other than 'increase by one HeB now...if still losing weight add another HeA...then increase syns just a tiny bit but try not to do that' ... not helpful!
I'm actually finding it really hard to be ok with increasing a HeB - it feels so wrong! Tried it yesterday and loved it because I could have cereal and bread whilst not synning one but because I've had a couple of meals higher in syns than usual I am trying to stick to the normal plan for this week
Someone convince me that adding an additional HeB won't pile the weight I've lost back on!************************************

After a week of stress with hospital visits etc I managed to loose 1.5 lb. I am quite happy with that. :j
Has anyone seen the new Paul McKenna book called the hypnotic gastric band? Looks interesting and I have ordered it from Amazon. I like his voice and I have his "I can make you thin" book too although I can't trust myself to follow his 4 golden rulesI just keep eating..

Would the roast beef still be free if I cut the fat off mine after cooking or should I have taken off the fat before cooking.
I usually make my gravy with the juices and fat from the meat, flour and stock but this isn't very healthy so how do I make low syn homemade gravy?
You probably should have cut off any big pieces of fat but it's too late now. I reckon if you cut some lean pieces off for you any syns 'soaked in' will be negligible.
There are ways of making low syn gravy. If you want some ideas

Personally I always carried on making my own. I used to try to be a bit sparing with the portion and allowed perhaps 3-4 syns. When you think about it that's nothing to enjoy a massive roast dinner when everything else is free. Don't be too mean with yourself.:)
If you ever hit a plateau you could always tighten up on things like the gravy and meat. For now I wouldn't be too fussy as you need to eat like this long term so it needs to be sustainable or you'll give up with longing for things you've deprived yourself of.lushlifesaver wrote: »

You're only doing what you could have anyway on green plan. Stop worrying. Give it a few weeks to see how you manage around your target range. My biggest problem has been falling below. I've even had to pay a couple of times!:mad:0 -
Thanks maman I plan to give it a go properly next week (after WI on Wednesday) when there will be no unexpected events (no cancelled tournaments etc
).
Think I will try having cereal/porridge for brekkie and a sandwich at lunch times to start with.
Finally started to feel my new size this weekend! With having been wearing my big, baggie jeans and leggings with huge jumpers for a while I've still felt 'big' but this weekend it started to sink in that I'm much smaller now:) just need to get some nice clothes that fit/gradually get my posh frocks altered.************************************

Funny you should post this. I cooked a roast today but I gave little consideration for SW and my heart sank as I fished the spuds and parsnips out of the oil:(:( I'm slowly getting back into sw ways but today it just didn't happen.
How do you cook the perfect sw roast ???0 -
Hello
I am tentatively restarting on SW by myself, using a book from 2008. I know that some things are changed but I plan to do green and red days, the old traditional way.
I have lost 2 stones in the last 2 years by low-carbine but as an almost vegetarian (save a bit of fish) it was difficult and I missed beans, pulses and rice.
I intend to stay away from bread, pasta and puddings but follow the SW principles for the rest. Hope it works, at his stage I am just experimenting.
Today's food:
B. fried eggs and mushrooms, 1 tsp oil - 2
L. Lentil and veg soup, 1 tsp oil - 2
S. celery sticks with 1 tbsp peanut butter - 5, 1 oz cheese (HEA 1), apple.
D. Quorn sausages with roast squash, greens, tomato mozzarella salad (1/2 HEA 1), 2tbsps gravy 4
S. small chunk fat reduced cheddar (1/2 HEA1), walnuts (HEA2)
Total syns 13
Am I doing it right? Thanks for help. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

I did my spuds in the actifry with some fry light, and all the other veg I cooked in the steamer, I only use the oven to cook the meat.0 -

I did a roast tonight: lean piece of beef, parsnips and potatoes done in frylight (I love them this way, so easy I often do them midweek), cabbage, cauliflower, carrots. The only syns were in my HM gravy.
Caterina, your menu looks fine although personally Frylight is my friend. I'd rather use the syns on something else.0 -
Thank you maman for your suggestion. I have used fry light before but am not fond of it, would rather put real good fats in my diet and lose slower. Also being Italian I love my olive oil.
Coming from a low carb regime where fats are not restricted, I want to eat a bit lighter, but still eat some fat, so I think that will use up a lot of my syns.
Having said that, today I dry-fried my egg and mushrooms, in the pan where I had already fried DH's egg, as it had no oil left but still the egg did not stick. So I can save my precious olive oil for salad, veg and soup. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

Hi Caterina
Did you syn the quorn sausages? as they are now a syn each. the amount of low fat cheddar allowed for Hex a is 40grams (just for future reference) & im not sure that mozerella is on the hex a choice list now? I will check my book later on.
I am seconding maman's suggestion of using frylight as well - i wouldnt like to waste syns on oil :rotfl:
