I’m new to Slimming World (just had my 2nd WI – 6.5lbs down so far) and I’m still getting my head around how it works. I have a couple of questions that I wanted to ask our consultant at WI last night but she was busy registering new members so I didn’t get a chance. So I thought I’d post them here. Sorry if these are things that have already been covered a hundred times.
I’m following the extra easy plan so you have free and superfree foods and I know 1/3rd of your meal is supposed to be superfree food. So if I have meat, potato and veg I know that the veg (the superfree stuff) should take up 1/3rd of the plate. That’s fine. But what do I do when I have something like spaghetti bolognaise, spaghetti carbonara, gammon, egg and SW chips or even a SW fry up for breakfast? These are the kind of meals that I’ll eat without any veg (with the exception of a bit of onion and carrot in the bolognaise). I don’t really like salad so having a side salad isn’t an option and as for the SW fry up I’ll have some plum tomatoes but the only veg thing I can think that would be suitable is mushrooms and I hate them.
So for some meals I’m not eating 1/3rd superfree. I try to make sure I eat my superfree foods elsewhere (I’ll have veg soup for lunch and will snack on fruits) but I don’t think that’s inline with the EE plan. I’m obviously losing at the moment but I don’t want to get further down the line and find I’m not losing weight because of this. What do you do?
My other question is in relation to syns. I know you can have up to 15 syns a day and they say to use between 5-10 syns but do you have to use these? I did WW before and we were encouraged to eat all of our points. So is SW similar where they encourage you to eat your points? If I don’t use my daily syns can I save them up and use them later in the week. For example save 5 syns for a few days and use 30 syns at the weekend?
The recommendation of having up to 15 syns a day is so that you are not depriving yourself of a treat so you dont feel like you are following a diet and packing it up part way through because you are limited to what you can/cant eat. The books suggest sticking between 5-10 syns now to compensate any hidden syns you may of had - such as that extra cup of tea with milk, or going slightly over the tsp/tbsp quantities allowed.
If you are cooking a spag bol from scratch, using the ingredients from one of the SW recipes they will have the right balance of superfree foods in them so you dont have to bulk it out. This is even mentioned in an article posted on the SW website during the past week.
As for how you use your syns SW recommend using them daily where as a few members of this thread save them up for the weekend to have the extra glass of wine and it works for them. So im not going to advocate one way or another, if it works for you thats great otherwise revert back to the SW way and see if it makes any difference.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

Natural yogurt also mixed with some eggs and nutmeg can create the white sauce for a lasagne. The possibilities are as limited as your imagination or google search.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

First WI this morning and recorded loss of 5.5 lb.
Thank you all you lovely people for inspiring me to join, and your subsequent friendly welcome, advice and support.
I've taken note of your comments and shall be eating more.
Today:
Brek.Orange
Lunch. Skinless chicken drumstick, baby plum tomatoes, orange, Sharon fruit.
Snack Muller light strawberry yogurt. Orange.
Dinner. Casserole just made and put in slow cooker: skinless chicken thighs, leeks, onions, celery, carrots, baby spinach, potatoes, chicken bovril for stock.0 -
I'm starting SW again for the last time! However I'm doing it from home as it's hard to get to group.
I'm really wanting to lose 10lbs in just over 5 weeks as i am going away for 3 days, then maybe an extra 7lb after that.
I'm having 12 syns a day and at meal times I'm having half a plate of veg (green beans, broccolli, cauli ) with meat / syn free chilli / casserole. With the exception of breakfasts when i will have 35g oasts (b) 1 egg, 1 muller light & sweetner, mixed and baked into muffins. I can't stomach fruit, it gives me terrible bloating and tummy pains.
I will also be working out with 30 day shred & 25 mins of Kettlebells daily.
Fingers crossed for 10lbs off!!0 -

That's great news lush, well done you!!:T
fannyanna, I'm a target member and agree with all the advice stef gave about superfrees. I made a SC of bolognaise yesterday and it has carrots, onions, peppers, mushrooms plus tomatoes and passata so it's as full of SFs as a vegetable soup might be. I do the same sort of thing with chillis and curries too. Generally, I agree with you it's difficult to have enough SFs with some meals. That's where I'd snack on a bit of fruit later (so boiled egg and toast for breakfast and a banana mid-morning) or I'd do like sankeylindsey said and have large portions of veg with some meals to make up for it (stir fry is a favourite stand by here or bubble & squeak). I also had all 105 syns a week but saved up for weekends as I love my wine syns. All this is probably tweaking but I reckoned that if I came to a plateau I could be stricter with myself and play it more by the book. Fortunately for me it didn't happen!0 -

It is a new book thing. They were mentioned in class this week, something about there not being enough fibre so not being eligible for HEB, although AFAIK the calories etc are the same. I know that previously because the portion size is <35g, to be included as a HEB it had a Ryvita tacked onto it, again for the fibre I think so not sure what's changed. Tbh I have some plain ones in the cupbord and I'm not going to count them as syns, seems like madness when you can have more oats (i.e. the same thing) as a HEB.
(BTW I'm not suggesting people should tweak the plan, so for any newbies, you should stick to the values in the book- this is just my opinion based on values before xmas)
I know a lot of people in my consultants group are going to continue to use an original sachet as a HeB choice as it has been working for them so far. Just be aware though that in newer boxes the portions have shrunk down to 27g not the previous 35g!
Added some pickled onions and picked red cabbage to my pasta at lunch to add a few more flavours - found them in my parents cupboard, we don't have bits like that in at ours!
Think I've finished the day on around 15/15.5syns so no hot choc but thats ok
Best go and pack for the weekend though - will include a couple of curly wurlys and hot choc sachets as now food will be a lot more SW friendly!
Got an email saying the tournament may be cancelled due to snow but I'm hoping/expecting it not to be as people have a whole day to drive down there and then its indoors so should be ok! If not no idea what we will do with all teh food we have for it!************************************
