rfd you have my sympathies. My daughter is 18 and has really terrible periods. She is lucky to get one week off a month. Drs have seen her and messed around with contraception firstly putting her on the pill, then the injection, then the implant. Implant + pill and still to no avail. She has even had to take other tablets on a daily basis which are meant to stop bleeding but she still carries on and always look deathly pale. One gp asked her if she was in the midst of a miscarriage - she relied asking if they seriously thought there was a chance of it with no boyfriend and the combination of tablets she were taking and was sent off to do a preg test:eek: Looks now like she will have to go in for laser treatment with a gynae but she is scared of doing so, so its a matter of me talking to her and making her see sense.

Lost 3st 5lb with Slimming world so far!!
  • I was crippled by pain for all but ten days a month so much so I was on high doses of diclofenac and cocodamol everyday but thankfully the Drs put me on microgynon. Now I tri-cycle so only have *week once every three months - bliss! I used to faint and all sorts!

I'm sure it's contributed to my weight/food issues as I wouldn't be able to eat for days then would eat just instant noodles and chocolate for a few days then be back to finding it hard to eat anything. Shame as I love cooking!
Can't wait to do fajitas sometime once at target! been saving them for a target treat with my parents sometime when paul is at work or away :P

Oh dear. I feel for your daughter. Its bad enough having to go through it now but at 18.. What exactly are her symptoms? are they similar to mine? If so i really recommend the agnus castus - i wasnt expecting it to work at all and was gobsmacked when i noticed a difference straight away. It sounds though she is like me - i think i just dont suit synthetic hormones.

Useful website to look through as it has tips on how diet influences monthly cycle (i cut out caffeine - i now drink only decaff tea & coffee, no fizzy drinks, try to avoid refined products, sugar etc) . Sorry if i am telling you things you already know .:o

I've found the last few posts really interesting. I also suffer with period related problems. Sorry if this is TMI for some - please stop reading now if it is :)

I have PCOS and used to not have periods. I started trying for a baby and was put on metformin which kick started my periods. They were fine for a while (long cycles but they at least resembled a cycle) but I then needed treatment for pre-cancerous cells on my cervix and ever since then my periods have been really messed up. I went through an initial stage of bleeding heavily non-stop for 4 months. That finally stopped and I went through a stage of not bleeding at all. I'm now unfortunately back to the continuous bleeding.

Because I'm trying (rather unsuccessfully) for a baby contraceptives are not an option to fix my problems. I did buy some agnus castus but I haven't actually taken any yet (God knows why not). After reading this thread I might start taking them tonight and see how it goes.

I wonder how this bleeding impacts my weight loss. I know they say you weigh more when you have a period (because of water retention) and I wonder if I'm consistently weighing more at the moment because of these problems. I'm not really fat - I'm just a camel :rotfl:

I attend a class weekly and there is often much hilarity in our group that what gets eaten after weigh in doesn't count.....

Of course it does count because the moment we step off those scales, we are starting a new week and are working towards our weigh in the following week (Except the new week for me starts the following day :rotfl:) BUT I'm wondering what other posters do? Do you still count your syns post weigh in or do you forget about the syns and enjoy a naughty meal/treat??

Must admit I did have a small extra wine and a flake after weigh in yesterday as I was feeling at bit sorry for myself (hubby working away stressful day at work!) But I counted them :A
