    Hi all,

I've just seen on FB that the Poundland Mugshots aren't syn free as they use different ingredients in the 'cheap' ones?? Anyone else heard this? I doubt it's true (they're not going to make two different batches of the same thing are they?) but I'm going to investigate!!

Yeah, apparently this is true - I once saw something from Symingtons confirming that they do indeed make 2 types, one for cheap shops and one for supermarkets. The cheap ones are higher but someone on here (think it was Stef) compared the NVs and the cheap one is smaller so has fewer calories etc, so not sure why they are syns. Possibly if doesn't have enough fibre or something, meh. TBH I have them so rarely that I don't worry about it but even if I had them more I think cost would matter to me more than 1 extra syn- they often have them on some kind of offer in the supermarket but singly they are something like 70p!

That reminds me, I've finally started seeing the 'new and improved' pasta and sauces in the shops - are these meant to have syns?! Haven't compared the NVs and tbh have plenty of old ones in the cupboard but I think there was some debate as to whether they were actually going to be any different or whether milk (and maybe butter) were included in the syns.

Rest day for me today - nice relaxed cycle home last night even though it was raining and the wheels threw up loads of water (need mudguards!). May do some sit ups and stuff but that's all, will cycle again tomorrow.

    Green for me today:
    B: Berries, yogurt, honey (2), weetabix (B), milk (A)
L: SW quiche, ham (B), salad
T: Soya spag bol, cheese (A)
    S: Strawberries, Spiral (6)

Have a good day folks :)

    Weight loss - Apr '12 -Sept '13: 95lb
  • Hi everyone! Haven't been posting for a while, but had a disastrous night last night and wondered if any of you lovely people will be able to shed any light on it. Basically I've been really good all week, keeping my syns to around 5 a day, eating at least 1/3 SF if not more most days, walked miles around london on sunday and then put on 1.5lb last night!!

BUT the week before I had a bit of a blowout as it was a special occasion, skinny starbucks muffin, dessert at the restaurant, bread and butter, champagne!! You name it, I had it! ANd I lost 4lbs!!!!!

How does this work? How is it fair?!
I'm working on the theory that my body might be running a week behind, so any losses/gains show up the week after I've earned them/done the damage.

This is the first time i've gained in 4months on plan so I'm baffled and frustrated and really want to pull it back this week!!

    Any advice?? xxx

I dont know what to do, where my mind is at. I suffer depression and social anxiety. when I had a half lb loss in my second week, I didnt handle it well . A week on, I took a sickie from the 3rd WI . All week I didnt stick to any plan and had lots of choc and nice sandwiches and pasta dishes. also , I was given lots of wedding cake which I enjoyed.
Its weird, I dont feel overweight much when I am at home, in comfy clothes, and my resolve goes, I dont like my fat middle and big boobs, which get smaller with a few lbs loss. I cant decide to get strict with it again . Its looking in the mirror which makes me cringe.

I bravely went into my local very large supermarket, which was a big step for me as I never go alone..however, I needed help to lift some boxes to choose bedding plants, the man who helped me, did that awful man thing where his eyes flicked down to my boobs:eek: which made me feel sooo uncomfortable. that I felt like runnning to the car to get my coat on! I forced my self to get my 6/7 items and soldier on. why do men STILL do that, !!!!!! I am a middle aged woman and was covered with a sweater!

That seems the most likely explanation but it could also be you haven't eaten enough this week. 5 syns a day seems a bit low to me. There's the theory about the body hanging on to fat if it's not getting enough. Just keep sticking to the plan (and maybe up the syns;)) and I'm sure you'll get back to losing ways.

I'm sure he was being complimentary in his own saddo way but it is infuriating!! Well done for venturing out and sticking with your plan in spite of him. It can be hugely disappointing when you don't lose what you want but do try not to give up. I don't know you're circumstances but if you can avoid having too much synful food in the house and plenty of free/SF snacks for you that might help.

We had a talk about this at WI today. Lots of people seemed to have been self sabotaging. We came up with suggestions for things to snack on. Someone suggested Scotch eggs for those with savoury tastes. Apparently you can wrap hard boiled eggs in low syn sausage meat roll them in couscous and bake in the oven. Someone even wrapped the egg in lean bacon first. I like to have ham or chicken in the fridge and eat with pickled onions or beetroot.

I remember the 'new and improved' discussion Blodwen. I suppose the best suggestion is to go by whatever syns online is saying. I did notice mugshots at 25p in Farmfoods last week.

I decided to go to WI today as I won't be there for a few weeks because of my holidays. Pleased to say I lost 1lb:) so I'm well within target range. I'm going to stay on plan as much as possible before I go as that'll give me a few lbs to play with.
  • Aggypants - sorry to hear you're feeling so rubbish at the minute! I agree with Maman though, I'd definitely take the man's glances as a compliment, however moronic! I completely understand where you're coming from with your state of mind, sometimes it can be so hard to decide how you feel and what you want to do. I'd definitely persevere though, once you've been doing it a little while and get into the swing of things it almost becomes second nature.
And as for the yummy pasta dishes and chocolate you've been having, I'm positive you can still enjoy them and find a way to fit it into the plan!! There are lots of SW pasta recipes, and little tweaks you can make to make your old faves sw friendly. As for choccy, thats what syns are for!!!

Maman - Thank you. Maybe I will try and up my syns a little bit, see if that makes a difference. I'm going to do a food diary this week as part of our group challenge so maybe that will flag something up?! we'll see.

    Thanks jinny, much appreciated. :)

Ok, another question if anyone can advise please......I've got hold of a book - 'food optimising' and I bought this months SW mag and I've been doing some reading......but I've no idea what I should do. How do you decide between the different plans? Especially if you're as indecisive as me. :o

I wont be going to classes, I just need started off on the best route to take but I don't know what that is, lol.

Do I do the optimising thing or the easy thing or something else? I don't know what the main benefits of each are and this doesn't seem particularly well dealt with on the SW site, although I expect that's because they want you to join up and you get the nitty gritty then.

I'd be grateful for any thoughts?

Aliasojo - there is one main plan (Extra Easy) and 3 plans that used to be promoted more (Green days, Red days & Success Express) but these are background plans these days.

I would concentrate on Extra Easy as it's the main plan these days (unless you're a vegetarian & then you can only really do Green properly) - basically 1/3 of your meals should be 'superfree' foods - i.e. fruit, veg or salad - the other 2/3rds can be meat, potato's, pasta or rice etc.

The whole SW concept is called Food Optimising though depending on how old your book is, you may not have all the information as the plan has changed quite regularly over the last 10 years, as have syn values & healthy extra foods.

I hope that's a little bit clear? I'm not very good at explaining!

Thanks, I'm not veggie so I'll concentrate on the extra easy plan. :)

The book is fairly recent I think, I scrounged it from someone. :D

It's the same book that's shown on the website so I'm assuming it's quite up to date.

I'll need to go get acquainted with free foods, it shouldn't be hard. :rotfl:
