Stef - at our class the consultant makes a note if you have a star week. Err the painters are in! Not asking/saying that may be it. It's just another factor for us girlies. :A

Ive had a bad day today. Feel very tired. But still did a walk at least.

I need another way to switch off from stress. Didn't help that I was disorganised today. Never mind. It's history now.

Going to focus on a good nights sleep :A

    Hi everyone,
I hope you don't mind me joining in here. As a man, its taking me a long time to pluck up the courage. But I finally did it and joined a SW group yesterday.

I'm a bit confused by it all. The inital introductionto us newbies was very rushed and there was a lot of background noises from the main group.

I get the bit about superfree and free foods.

Super free foods make up one-third of plate - right?

But then I get confused with Syns and the 3 values in orange, red and green. There can be such a huge difference, like chicken drumsticks, cooked without fat, skin removed. Has zero syns for orange and red, but 7.5 syns for green.

My consultant said keep chicken drumsticks in the fridge and snack as you like as they are a free food. But then I see syn values attached.

And then there's A and B foods to chooses each day.

Aggghhhhh. I've been so frightened to make a mistake, I've survived on bovril, fruit and celery since yesterday. i really want a meal tonight.

I guess, it will all become clear after a few days :)

Thanks for the welcome and the explanations :)

I don't recall the consultant mentioning extra easy or anything. But I did note one booklet "There's so much more...green, original, success express"

Then the main optimising booklet talks about Extra Easy, original and green.

So I presume success express has become extra easy?

At this moment, I'm making SW chips - got my Fry Light in - and shall have it with grilled cod and some mushy peas.

For breakfast I had an orange and a coffee.

For lunch I had an orange, a sharon fruit, some defrosted summer fruits and yogurt.

I bought some chicken, but that will do for tomorrow.

Thanks again for your help :)

Stef - that's a great achievement by your son :T

Welcome Banjo Bear  lovely to have you :j

I would suggest that when the New Year rush has passed that you perhaps sit in on the new member talk again. It is confusing and it took me a little while to get my head round it.

There are four plans you can pick from (Extra Easy, Red, Green and Success Express) but Extra Easy is probably the best plan to start off with.

If you haven't already logged on to the Slimming World Members site then this is definitely worth a nose. You will need the number from your membership card and your pin (which should have been written in your book). When you log in for the first time, it will ask you what kind of dishes you like to eat. I guess so that in the future it can suggest recipes specific to what you like to eat.

The Slimming World Magazine is also worth a read - you can buy this cheaper in class than at the shops - it always has lots of recipes inside plus a week's meal plan.

Its hard to know how best to explain SW and I am not the best person to explain extra easy because I was taught red and green days so I would recommend going to the beginning of this thread and having a read of the second post and then let us know if you have any questions.

Food Optimising is a plan for life, it is not a quick fix and you should look at weight losses over a period of time. There are no prizes for speed of weight loss.

You need to commit to making changes to the food that you buy and how you cook it, because what you have been doing in the past has not got you to where you want to be.

You cannot use parts of the plan that suit you and forget the rest.

If you are not prepared to make a commitment to change the behaviour that has got you into your current situation then nothing is going to change, and above all things, you need to be honest and accountable for every single mouthful of food that passes your lips.

You need to care enough to take time out to pre-plan your slimming campaign. Look again at the menu plans and see the variety and volume of food you can eat. All you have to lose is the weight.
Slimming World has been successfully helping people lose weight for over forty years, so trust them and read your Food Optimising and Choose Success books again and again.

Food Optimising is easy but life isn't. Losing weight is a battle but you have the battle plan in your food optimising book, your secret weapon is free food, and that, together with your healthy extras and syns add up to a healthy way of eating that can (and should) be a life plan. Success is there waiting for you………go for it!

The Original (Red) and Green plans are still going strong but most people may well have heard of the Extra Easy plan. If you've ever wondered if it works, I promise you it does. If you've ever wondered how it works, just trust the experts at SW, they wouldn't send you on the wrong path.

If you fancy having a go at EE, here are the official 'rules' to ensure that you not only lose weight regularly but get all the nutrition your body needs to function well:-

    Extra Easy:

    1: Choose your Free Food

Anything that’s Free Food on Green OR Original – so that’s pasta, rice, potatoes, lean meat, poultry, fish and all the Superfree food – is totally Free on Extra Easy! Yes, you can eat unlimited meat, potatoes and veg, fish, chips and mushy peas, and chicken curry and rice with no measuring, no weighing, no counting – no kidding!

And for super-fast, super healthy results, fill one third of your plate with Superfree Food!

    2: Choose your Healthy Extras

Each day select one Healthy Extra ‘a’ choice and one Healthy Extra ‘b’ choice from our simplified list of calcium and fibre-filled foods, including milk, cheese, bread and cereal.

3: Enjoy 5-15 Syns each day

And if the Syn values for Green and Original foods are different on the standard Syns lists, count the lower one!

If you find your weight loss has slowed down or stopped, check:-

    1. Whether everything you're counting as Free, is Free

    2. Whether you're under-estimating Syn values (over-estimate if guessing)

    3. Whether you're counting everything that should be counted

    4. Whether you're measuring everything that should be measured

    5. Whether you're sabotaging your success in any other way (using SAS logs will help uncover individual long-term self-sabotage patterns) and, if none of these is the culprit, either...........

A: increase the proportion of Superfree Foods to half of your plate

    OR

B: switch to more Speed Foods

Here is the post I mean. I've highlighted a couple of bits. Rather than waffle - let me know what is puzzling and I will try to explain :)

Please eat more! I would be starving to death if I only ate that and there would be no way I would be sticking to it for long either.

I think the best way to remember Extra Easy is:
1/3 of your plate super free
    One A choice (dairy)
    One B choice (fibre)
5-15 syns. Extra Easy is the orange syns.

I would stick to extra easy for now, I have been doing slimming world since last May and still can't get my head around red and green days :rotfl:

    So today I have eaten:

B - Fruit and Fibre (heb) with milk (hea) , yogurt, apple.
L - Jacket potato, beans and salad.
D - Macaroni cheese (6 syns for cheese) with veg.
Small piece of my sons giants cookie, not sure of syns but I won't be having anything else just to be on the safe side :)

    Keep plodding :)

    Welcome Banjo bear
When i had sciatica before xmas was on co-codamol and naproxen but came off them after 3 days as the naproxen was causing chest pains and the co-codamol was binding me up. I try to stay as med free as possible as we have been TTC for the past few years and i dont want anything hindering it, even took a PT before taking meds to make sure i werent rocking the boat. I intend to keep plodding on and today instead of being downhearted about it i have been even more stubborn and gone the opposite way. Consultant has been posting on fb so have updated her with my meal plans from today and for the weekend and all is fine there, just need to write it down with any syns i have to be rechecked at group.
This weeks STS is not connected to * week, that would usually be mid cycle from the pattern that has developed in my original book and that was picked up on by a stand in consultant so i know when that could possibly be connected to any alterations in loss. So like we say to many others in here, its not a gain so draw a line under it and move on. Theres always next weigh in.

Sungiggs1 If you are starting to get bloated, constipated and generally uncomfortable then try upping your drink intake. I found that because i were eating such a lot more fibre when i first started that it binds you up and you need more hydration to get things moving along in the right direction. There was something on one of the health programmes a while ago explaining for each gram of fibre you ate how much water you would need to help digest it but cant remember for the life of me what it was called.
