OMG!!!!
I am totally in shock - the NHS are giving this to 15 year old kids - !!!!!! - why????
I haven't even read the article yet - only the headlines.
Shouldn't doctors be disbarred (or whatever the medical equivalent is) for such malpractice? Isn't there any kind of control on this surgery as to who is eligible for it and what criteria they have to meet before they can go through with it?
Sorry people I've really opened a whole can of worms with this discussion which really wasn't my intention. As far as I know this isn't done for kids over here but I could be extremely naive and wrong. I know it's given to people who have no intention of trying to diet on their own first and really do see it as the answer to all their problems.
Wow totally in shock :eek::eek:Mediterranean Mum

1lb on
I feel less bloated & was convinced i'd lost this week :huh:Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -
You soon get used to it. Hubby and I gave up bread a year ago and we manage fine.
I can't tell you how much better we both feel (and we've both lost a similar amount of over 1.5 stones.) I used to feel bloated and get awful indigestion and I never do now.
I have only eaten bread once in the last four weeks and feel better for it too. I hadn't realised the link between bread and bloating before.0 -
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the discussion about my fitness pal. I am planning to learn how to use it this weekend. A colleague is using it with the 5/2 diet and says it has really helped her make wiser food selections. We have said we will both give it a go tomorrow and compare the joint impact with our diets. I am enjoying my discussions with her as it is interesting to compare SW to a totally different approach.0

All im going to say on the weight loss v surgery for kids is that the parents involved need to really get a kick up the backside after all arent they partly to blame?
Yes i can sit back and say that as i am a mom who for years had a son with a weight issue - all of my doing - well im the one who does the shopping so fills his stomach, not just with 3 meals a day but with the snacks and drinks in between. I fully accept responsibility when my son stepped on the scales in June 2012 @ 17.5stone but now 11 months later is 12.5stone just through changing the way we eat/cook. He still has his snacks, most weeks is probably over in syns but he can now sit back and know the sensible choices he can make when having a meal on an odd occassion and appreciate the food infront of him. And for the first time in his life is now able to tell when he is full as opposed to continuosly eating till he feels sick. For me this is the best achievement of all because it is showing he is now in control and not eating for the sake of it.
He has been and treated himself to a flump and a freddo for post weigh in tonight where as before he would think nothing of having a 200g bar of chocolate, biscuits and crisps washed down with full fat fizzy pop! :T:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

Personally it has never been an issue but did take the advice on board and swap to Hovis seed sensations which is heb so i can have a variation through the week with my HEB's.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

So proud of you Stef240377 and of your son. I wish you could stand up in front of these people and shout it out.
It's total ignorance and yes I do blame the doctors because they should be educating not facilitating.Mediterranean Mum

Just created a profile but omg I am already 300 over what they project for me and been really healthy with only free foods so far0

Well I had a look at the fitnesspal thingy and I really can't be doing with all of that
I did a profile and username thing but It wants your weight, which I had to guess as I don't weigh myself, and then having to put in all the food in a day would take AGES and I just can't be botheredSo I'm going to continue with my plan of cutting out the fruit and see if my trousers feel a bit better in a week or two.
Have had a splitting headache ALL DAY and I'm wondering if it's due to eating less food than I'm used to? I'm not starving myself by any means, but I'm defo eating less, and I was hungry at break, and then again by dinner my belly was groaningThen in the afternoon I couldn't see straight so I came home from work.
Got my eyes shut for a few hours and it's calmed down but it's still in the background if you know what I meen?
Will just keep plodding on, will report back in a week or two and see how things are going if I don't fall off the wagon in the meenwhileSay it once, say it loud ~ I'm an Atheist, Anti-Royalist, Socialist, Tea-Total Veggie Frog and PROUD!:D

The first day I was also way over but I've managed to keep well within the 1900 calories they gave me. On the days I exercise I get "given" extra calories!!Well I had a look at the fitnesspal thingy and I really can't be doing with all of that

It is a bit of a pain but once you've created a list of regular foods then you just call them up every day. It's not for everyone and I probably won't keep it up for weeks and weeks but it's interesting to see what's happening.
I'm also suffering from a headache the last few days and wonder if it's because I've eaten less this week, but have you been drinking enough Frogga?Mediterranean Mum
