Can some one please explain why sir popped pop corn needs to be syned?

Also read that 'chickpea nuts' need to be syned aswell. You rinse a tin of chickpeas, dry cover with spice and roast

Tricky one. I don't really have an answer as to be honest I don't really understand it myself. But to use other examples, if you cooked up some cous cous as per packet instructions and ate this with some chopped fruit (kiwi, mango, etc) and a bit of fat free natural yogurt then this would be free BUT use the cous cous as part of a cake mixture then this would have to be synned. Likewise, use lasagne sheets for their intended purpose - i.e. to make lasagne then FREE (aside from any syns in your sauce) BUT use the lasagne sheets to make crisps and they have to be synned.

Popped corn definitely has some syns but if you have your chickpea dish once in a while then I wouldn't worry too much about the syn value of this unless your weight loss slows down/stalls.

I think the reasoning behind this madness is that the structure of the food has been changed.
i think it is to do with portion sizes as well. with the lasagne "crisps", if we used syns and had one measured packet of normal crisps we know what we are eating, the calories and portion but with the cheats, a lot of people heard "free" and really went to town with the amounts to the extent all these cheats will add up over the week and affect a loss.

the scan bran cake was another that was supposedly one HEB a whole cake that SW insisted had a proper syn value regardless of the technicality.

Yep, would agree with both of these posts- portion size, eating in addition to meals - and also water content, i.e. dried chick peas and lasagne sheets have a lot less bulk than if they were cooked, so would be much less filling. Personally I don't tend to bother too much with 'tweaks' - would much rather have a bag of real crisps or a little cake and count the syns, but I'm sure if you did it now and again it wouldn't make too much difference (don't quote me on that though!)

    Green today:
B: Apple porridge (HEB + 1 syn), banana, milk (A)
    L: Speed soup, satsuma
T: Soya spag bol, pitta (B), cheese (A)
    S: Cereal bar (5), Kit Kat (5.5)

LOL, after saying I don't tweak I've counted flavoured porridge as HEB, although this is the last one I have (found it in desk drawer when moving offices- it is mine though!!) so not making a habit of it.

On an away day with work tomorrow so won't be on here and lunch is included so will have to see what I can have, will take some fruit and a cereal bar just in case though!

Have a great day and weekend folks :)

Crisps & snacks, basic, Popcorn, plain, popped without fat, 25g = 4.5syns

Would you say this is before or after popping?

I might have an experiment later with finding out what 25g looks lik before & after cooking!

I would say that was after popping but would be interesting to see if there was a difference in weight after popping- should technicially be v little difference if any but I suppose air does weigh a tiny amount!

I'm sure Club 10 is doable in 2 weeks :)

Thanks Beanie, I'm sure it was just due to no alcohol in the last week! Hope you get your free week next week.

I've still got a few weeks on my countdown so does that mean I'd lose my club 10 free week? Ah well. I guess it's worth it to feel happier!

I had my first weigh in last night. I lost 4lb so I’m pleased with that. Initially I was a bit disappointed as I’d done a sneaky peek on my own scales and they showed a 5.5lb loss so I was expecting to lose a bit more. But I’m happy with the 4lbs and learnt a valuable lesson – don’t sneaky peek as it leads to disappointment when you would have otherwise been happy!

In my first week I think I was a bit worried about how much to eat and I ended up eating less than I normally would. I stayed at the group after weigh in last night and was talking to some of the other members and I was surprised at how much they had eaten (and had bigger losses than me). So I think I might try to lose my “shouldn’t eat too much” mentality this week and eat a bit more. If it doesn’t work I just know not to carry it on.

I was also surprised to find out that you can find packaged snacks for free. They were talking about mugshots that I’ve never heard of before. I think in a way it’s like a cup a soup but it’s pasta rather than soup. Apparently the 1% fat versions are free on extra easy. This kind of thing would be brilliant to keep in my desk at work for the days where I’ve not been very organised and don’t have anything for lunch (like today lol). Can anyone recommend any other similar things to mugshots that are free on extra easy?

We had SW chips last night. I’ve made these before when I was on WW but I haven’t had them for a while. They were lovely. I actually prefer them to normal chips. I’m quite a lazy cook though so that’s why we’d normally have frozen oven chips. I was thinking about preparing a batch of SW chips and freezing them for my lazy days. I’m guessing that if I cut the potato up and blanche it I’ll then be able to freeze it. That way if I want chips I just have to taken them out of the freezer and stick them in the oven and cook them for a little longer than I would if they weren’t frozen. Has anyone else done this?

Also had a little bit of chocolate last night with my syns. You really do appreciate food more when you eat it in moderation. It was lovely!

I have a good feeling about SW. I can’t believe I’ve not tried it earlier and I honestly don’t think I’ll ever go back to WW again.

To get your club 10 week I think you have to then go for 10 weeks & have a STS or a loss after the week you achieve your club 10!!!!So AFAIK very few people actually get the free week.

I have another quick question. What awards do you get at SW?

I know at WW we got a silver 7 for every 7lb lost, a key-ring when we lost 10% of our weight, certificates (for I think 30lbs, 50lbs etc) and I know you got something when you reached goal.
