Evening all.
After lasts night debacle I decided to read my mag from cover to cover and this is what I have had today. Weighed myself last night and have took note so will do this again before I attend group next week and see if they are up and running.
B - porridge sachet with skimmed milk
L - tin of ww chicken soup (found lurking at the back of the cupboards), banana and muller light yog.
D - roast chicken, skin removed, roast veggies done with spraylight and 2 scoops of 50/50 potato/celeriac. and gravy made with bisto granules.
snacks - grapes, sugar free jelly, rolled slice of cold meat.
Why is it the minute you think you cant eat what you want you feel the need to nibble all day long.First ever SW challenge 2015: 0/70Watch this space!0 -
Can some one please explain why sir popped pop corn needs to be syned?
Also read that 'chickpea nuts' need to be syned aswell. You rinse a tin of chickpeas, dry cover with spice and roast
Tricky one. I don't really have an answer as to be honest I don't really understand it myself. But to use other examples, if you cooked up some cous cous as per packet instructions and ate this with some chopped fruit (kiwi, mango, etc) and a bit of fat free natural yogurt then this would be free BUT use the cous cous as part of a cake mixture then this would have to be synned. Likewise, use lasagne sheets for their intended purpose - i.e. to make lasagne then FREE (aside from any syns in your sauce) BUT use the lasagne sheets to make crisps and they have to be synned.
Popped corn definitely has some syns but if you have your chickpea dish once in a while then I wouldn't worry too much about the syn value of this unless your weight loss slows down/stalls.
I think the reasoning behind this madness is that the structure of the food has been changed.0 -

i think it is to do with portion sizes as well. with the lasagne "crisps", if we used syns and had one measured packet of normal crisps we know what we are eating, the calories and portion but with the cheats, a lot of people heard "free" and really went to town with the amounts to the extent all these cheats will add up over the week and affect a loss.
the scan bran cake was another that was supposedly one HEB a whole cake that SW insisted had a proper syn value regardless of the technicality.0 -

Copied direct from the Slimming world Website:
2. Are couscous cake and lasagne-sheet ‘Doritos’ Free?
You might be disappointed to hear that they’re not. Because changing the use of a food can make it easier to over-eat, to protect your weight loss they become Synned.
When foods like pasta, rice and grains are used in their original form they’re low in energy density (calories), bulky, appetite-satisfying foods. Pasta, couscous and rice are usually the main ingredient in a meal packed with other Free Foods – giving it sufficient bulk to be satisfying as a meal in itself. However, when ground down, used as flour (like in couscous cake), seasoned crisps (like Doritos) or pur!ed (like smoothies) they’re often used as additions to a main meal… and on top of your day’s Syns. It is a very effective way of adding a lot of extra calories in a non-bulky way, and as such would then be counted as Syns.
3. Can my Scan Bran cake really be just 1 Syn per slice?
You’re are an inventive bunch when it comes to finding innovative ways to turn Scan Bran into delicious cakes, nibbles and treats! Discovering a whole cake is just 10 Syns can be too tempting, however we have spotted that a few Scan Bran cake calculations have gone a bit wrong…
- 5 Scan Bran can be counted as 1 Healthy Extra ‘b’ choice or 1 Syn per slice.
- If you’ve counted some of the Scan Bran you’ve used as a Healthy Extra, it will need counting as Syns once it’s cut up – unless you’re eating the lot!
- As well as the Scan Bran, most recipes call for cocoa, spread, milk, jam, etc. which all add up.
- If someone else has made the delicious Scan Bran delight, and you’re not sure of the Syns, ask for a copy of the recipe. They’ll be delighted that you love it so much, and you can feel confident that you’re keeping within your 15 Syns… even with a slice of cake!

Crisps & snacks, basic, Popcorn, plain, popped without fat, 25g = 4.5syns
Would you say this is before or after popping?
I might have an experiment later with finding out what 25g looks lik before & after cooking!
Was thinking this could be a better snack at work for me - i'm not a fruit person & am struggling at work at the moment because i am bored! Been having mini marshmallows at the moment - but now starting to get bored of them! Plus i still have popcorn kernels at home that need to be used!
Plan for today - Green day
B - Banana & mullerlight, Special Kchewy bar (heb)
L - Couscous with chilli kidney beans
D - Pasta made with condensed celery soup, sweetcorn, onions, carrots & mixed beans (4)
S - Carrot sticks & homemade humous, Alpen light (cherry bakewell flavour!!!) x2 (heb) milk in coffee (hea) french fries (4)0
