That's exactly what happened to me at the weekend Macpep - sat down for my lunch on Saturday expecting to have my big salad with lots of cold meat and there was none left!! Bloody scavengers had been at it!

Welcome incorrect and good luck on your "journey".

I suppose the only thing I can say to what you wrote is why does treats for kids have to be of the sweet kind. For lots of us this is how our weight problems and weight problems of our kids start because of the sweets and chocolates that are given as a "prize" when we've done something good. Why does gratification have to be in the form of food? I really think we need to change the mindset and the time to do it is when the kids or grandkids are small.

My kids don't get sweets a lot, usually a Friday night on 'family night' but they do have crisps/biscuits in with their lunches if they want as well as fruit etc, I don't use sweets as a treat at all, if they ask then I will decide if they can have it or not but TBH its probably my DH who eats most of the chocolate etc, I am lucky in that I am not a BIG chocolate craver, I can take it or leave it but a packet of crisps or haribos is another matter:rotfl:

Absolutely Lantanna and what works for one doesn't always work for another which is another thing to remember. Like you I have to be really careful with the carbs. I limit myself to my 2 slices of toast in the morning (or split it between breakfast and afternoon snack) and only occasionally have pasta. I don't eat any potatoes except sweet potatoes because I just can't tolerate them.

So jealous of those who can....

It wouldn't really apply to toast as that's synned beyond the HEB allowance. I think the problem some people have is with pasta/potatoes/rice etc. I think it might be a tolerance thing for some people like you said. The other thing I found that even though nothing is banned with SW I did ban certain things for me as I knew it was better to avoid temptation. For example, I didn't buy cheese the whole time I was getting to target. The only time I had it was as a cheeseboard treat when I was having a flexi meal out on a special occasion so it wasn't in the house.

The trouble is it's really difficult to understand how food optimising works and, as it's a money spinner, there's no way SW is going to explain it in detail. I used to get frustrated as I find 'blind belief' a bit hard to cope with. What I do is tell myself it's a healthy eating plan where you eat as much as you want of healthy food and keep the things we know aren't good (sugar, fat etc) for treats. I suppose pasta/rice/potatoes are reasonably healthy in themselves what is often the problem is the way they're cooked.

Sorry if that went on a bit!:o

Welcome incorrect. You'll be fine with flavoured water provided it's not sweetened with sugar. If you look at the info. on the bottle it's probably calorie free so it's like drinking diet drinks, no problem. I do agree with the squash comments though. I often have sugar free Ribena, particularly as a hot drink if I've used my HEA for cereals.

On the treats for grandchildren front: I'd advise a few things. if possible buy things you really don't like. I used this technique with my DH. I used to buy him biscuits and flavoured crisps that weren't to my taste so I wasn't tempted. You could just buy them treats when you're out of the house, like an ice cream, but don't buy yourself one. If you must have yummy stuff in the house put it away in a tin, label it 'DGC's treats Keep Off!!' and you should feel thoroughly ashamed if you even think of raiding it!!:D:rotfl:

I've had eggs on toast for breakfast and I'm going out later for a meal. It will have syns (carvery I go to every few months with some colleagues) but I know there'll be plenty of SF in there too. I must have something for lunch soon before I start grabbing an easy sandwich. Syn free day planned for tomorrow.

Not at all Maman - when I said limit myself to my 2 slices of toast - I meant that I try most days not to have any other carbs, despite the fact that the toast is HEB - for me that's still carbs and about as much as I can allow myself. I see and feel it immediately. I'm totally obsessed with my muffin top and how it expands throughout the day when I eat  :rotfl:

I was always a calorie counter in the past so this is quite hard for me to get my head around but the fact is that thousands of people do it and do it extremely successfully so there's obviously something in it.

I'm always flipping bloated and it drives me mad!!!!!!!!!

Well done for losing 25 lbs though. Have you a plan of attack for the next 25?:T

I have found all the discussion around carbs really interesting. I haven't had any bread over the past few weeks, which has been a huge change for me because at times I would have it as part of three meals in a day. I haven't felt nearly so bloated. I am trying to cut out bread/pasta/rice/potatoes at lunch time just now as a step to cutting back on carbs. Last week I struggled, but I have now found that either having a banana afterwards or increasing the protein helps. I had a prawn salad yesterday and was hungry by 3pm. Today I increased the prawns by quite a bit and was not hungry at all. It will be a balancing act a bit like the cooked breakfast calories issue.

Thanks everyone. I lost 1.5 this week.
I agree about the carbs I do not eat bread and with potato I limit it to 3.
At class today they were saying that all the classes around the country are saying people are struggling due to the weather. It is such a constant battle and I find I am taking off and increasing by the same amount of pounds. I am now 9 st 9lbs but want to be 9st 3lbs.
Good Luck to everyone else when they weigh.

I used to be a bread fiend.. give me that over chocolate any day!

3 slices of warbies toastie for breakfast with lurpak and peanut butter.. sandwich for lunch then more toast for supper wasn't unusual.. very rarely have it now and it doesn't bother me at all, never thought i'd say that!

had a wee blip a few weeks back (work as usual!) had 1 slice of toast and peanut butter and didn't enjoy it one bit.. perhaps because I knew it wasn't a good food choice, but I think my taste buds have changed since starting this!

made a spag bol for the guys at work using jar sauce, had a spoonful and thought it tasteless compared to using passata!

agree about the carbs, free foods etc.. could never eat a full brekkie everyday then eat other meals.. would fill me up for the day, plus the calories certainly would add up for weight loss even if its free food and you eat loads of it..

working tonight.. prepared for the munchies attack later :)

Pennylane I don't know how old you are or how much you weigh but sometimes our perception of what our weight should be is not in numbers but in how our clothes feel and what size we're in. If you're wearing a size 10 or 12 then that to me is great - I can't even begin to conceive of that - being slimmer than that can look really bad on someone older as our skin loses its elasticity. You're obviously losing inches and that's a great thing.

 TG we can't get the strawberry one over here!!!

{{{{{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}}} Beanielou You know what, the fact that you're still here is great - you want this and you'll get back on track.

Well, there's one thing .... I must sound like a slim person!! :rotfl::rotfl:10/12 I wish! I am in a 16 but my proportions are pretty good and I have very slim legs. I have thrown out clothes with 20 and 22 labels so I am proud of what I have lost. I am in my 50's and I'd like to lose another stone at least. I think that would still put me at overweight but I'd love to be in a 14.
