Why is it that some days you could just eat for England and others you're just so good???

I've been hungry since 11am and managed to fight it and put off lunch until 12.30 (still a bit earlier than I would like). I'm now fed and watered and feeling satisfied but why can't I do that every day without hitting the fridge/freezer??

I'm praying for lots more days like today...

Eat away for England, as long as its free stuff :rotfl:. I am going to try to get some of theose chicken tikka bites from Asda, I love munching on cold meat at night but tends to leave it short for kids packed lunches so then I need to find something else :rotfl:

    Well done Blodwen.

Can anyone explain Mix to Match for me please?
Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.
  • Hi everyone, I am just starting SW and have been reading this thread and I have to say its great. Loads of support here. I need to lose 3 stone and I am really going to try, it is hard as there are always loads of sweeties and biscuits in our house for the grandkids but I am going to be strong.
I drink loads of asda flavoured water is this free? I do hope so otherwise its plain water for me.

I think (I may be wrong) you could mix your red & green days in one day ie a green lunch then perhaps a red dinner, I think this was replaced by EE?

Welcome to our lovely group, you will get lots of support on here, I am sure those ones are free, I think its Volvic 'touch of' that have syns, someone will correct me if I am wrong. It is hard having childrens snacks in the house, mine still have around 12 easter eggs each  luckily I don't have too much of a sweet tooth, good luck with your SW journey

PS - I buy soda water or sparkling water & add no added sugar juice to it (normally blackcurrant) this is free x

  • I've been thinking (obviously got too much time on my hands today!)...

Someone on one of the facebook groups counted up her totally free breakfast and got to 750 calories. I don't think that's what mine comes to by any stretch of the imagination but given that it's free food and let's say that the same person ate exactly the same for all three meals every day, plus snacks in between plus a maximum of 15 syns, then there's absolutely no way that they would lose weight.

I know it's not about the calories but surely that must play a part of the whole programme somewhere along the line and if someone isn't losing then they have to cut back on their intake.

To me if someone says you can have potatoes and pasta freely, someone who can't control their carbs is going to take this as a green light to continue eating large quantities of carbs with perhaps a lower fat sauce which to them is changing their pattern of eating.

Not sure if I'm making sense here but interested to know what anyone thinks about this.

That's exactly what happened to me at the weekend Macpep - sat down for my lunch on Saturday expecting to have my big salad with lots of cold meat and there was none left!! Bloody scavengers had been at it!

Welcome incorrect and good luck on your "journey".

I suppose the only thing I can say to what you wrote is why does treats for kids have to be of the sweet kind. For lots of us this is how our weight problems and weight problems of our kids start because of the sweets and chocolates that are given as a "prize" when we've done something good. Why does gratification have to be in the form of food? I really think we need to change the mindset and the time to do it is when the kids or grandkids are small.

I think you are totally right! I gain weight like mad if I attack carbs. I had super results years ago when I restricted them. If I ate unlimited potatoes, pasta etc there is no way I'd lose. I think I need to look at the portions of carbs that I'm serving myself this week. I cook for one so there is a challenge in portion control in itself there................................

I suppose it all has to be applied with a bit of common sense too doesn't it - though I for one am the worst at putting it into practice.

I also know the debate about using / not using syns and this week I'm only going to eat them if I am hungry not just to use them up or because I feel that I should. I will be having none some days and loads at the weekend so should all balance itself out with a bit of luck.

I guess we all have different things that work for us and its finding them thats the problem.:(

Absolutely Lantanna and what works for one doesn't always work for another which is another thing to remember. Like you I have to be really careful with the carbs. I limit myself to my 2 slices of toast in the morning (or split it between breakfast and afternoon snack) and only occasionally have pasta. I don't eat any potatoes except sweet potatoes because I just can't tolerate them.

So jealous of those who can....

Blodwen - Well done on your loss, I think we are all swings & roundabouts just now for some reason, a loss is a loss & you should be happy the dial is going the correct way :T

Thanks both. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to get a loss but if I gain 6 every 4 weeks then lose 2 on each of the other 3 then the dial isn't really going anywhere! I think that after a while most people have to change what they're doing in some way to keep getting results and that's the main reason I've started exercising - I reckon it'll be the key to getting the last couple of stone off (I hope so anyway!)

I love sugar free lime squash and fizzy water- have been petitioning my friend who works in our local to get sugar free lime in the pub so I can have something other than plain soda water and the odd diet Coke!

I don't think I have a problem with carbs (apart from liking them a bit too much!) but I completely agree with you- even though things are technically free doesn't mean they can be eaten in unlimited quantities, which is why I weigh out rice and pasta even though the plan says I don't need to. I'm by no means perfect but years of experience of diets and also looking at what is considered a 'normal' portion gives me a good idea of what is ok and what is pushing it. When I did SW years ago I did a lot of green days and used to have mounds of rice with no veg and wonder why I wasn't losing, as technically I was sticking to the plan. I think people just need to be sensible - there must be a lot of food there for 750 cals (am assuming a fry up of some kind?) so that needs to be taken into account for the rest of the day. For example, if I have a proper SW fry up I have it as brunch and have no more than, say, 2 sausages even though OH will have 3 or 4, and have tomatoes and mushrooms instead of beans, even though more/other stuff is allowed. IMO if someone 'plays' the system and doesn't lose whilst bemoaning that fact (and there are people like this in my class) then they're only cheating themselves, AND paying for the privilege! :wall:
