Rejoined SW yesterday after being target and letting the weight creep back on to the point that I am now heavier than I have ever been! How weird is it that you know exactly what to eat but need the group support to get you there! Feel that posting on here will also help me to remain focused and to share ideas. Set my target weight so got 19 1/2lbs to lose before I go on holiday in 17 weeks.

Welcome back MM. I do remember you. I have had a long bout of ill health and have been off sw right through. I gained back the weight I lost sadly. I think one of the big demotivators was that I simply didn't feel well enough to plan or cook properly. I do think planning was my big downfall. On Sunday I am going to make a meal plan for a week and shop accordingly. Good luck MM :)

Morning everyone. I will have no chance to go off the plan today as I am having a wee operation this afternoon. I have had my berry porridge and yoghurt this morning, but can't eat until after the operation now.

Thanks TIE, Macpep, Prudent and all of you for welcoming me back (and not forgetting me :rotfl:)

Prudent, I've also had weeks and weeks of various illnesses so you have my full sympathy and I can completely identify with the not planning or cooking properly. I hope all goes well with the op this afternoon - I'll be thinking of you.

I think that this is one of the major things about SW - you do need to plan and you do need to prepare. It's not a case of just opening up the cupboard and hoping that the right foods will jump out - they're all there but you have to actually put them together and make something and unless we've prepared or planned it in advance we all fall by the wayside and can't be bothered to actually stand and make something.

I need a "cook day" just to get several items prepared and made so that I can at least take it out in the morning and either finish it off or just heat and throw a salad together with it.

  • I don't know about anyone else but I love the pickled vegetable salad you get in Chinese restaurants. I've been playing around with and have come up with this -

    Asian Pickled Salad
    1 head cabbage, thinly sliced
3 large carrots, sliced on the diagonal
1 large red pepper, cut into cubes
3 or 4 spring onions, sliced on the diagonal

    Dressing -
    1 cup rice vinegar
    1/4 cup powdered sweetener
1 piece of fresh ginger grated or thinly sliced
    1 tblspn coarse salt

Put all the vegetables into a large bowl.
Put all the dressing ingredients into a saucepan and heat gently until
    simmering.
Pour immediately over the vegetables and mix well.
Leave to cool then put in the fridge overnight or for several hours.

    Enjoy!

  • The wonderful thing about living in the Mediterranean is the huge quantity of fresh vegetables in the local markets. There really is no excuse for us to eat anything but healthily here. However, like everywhere else, it's easier to pick up from the large range of pre-packaged and processed salads and this is the downfall of so many.

When I'm in the mood, it's such a pleasure to create a mezze of wonderful fresh salads knowing that there's only good things in them and no additives or preservatives.

Here's a great SW-friendly salad to serve with humous and felafel -

    Turkish Salad
    1 large onion, finely chopped
    2 tomatoes, finely diced
1 sweet red pepper, finely diced
    2/3 cup flat-leaf parsley, chopped
    1 tblspn tomato paste
    1-2 tblspns ketchup
salt and freshly ground black pepper
    1 tblspn olive oil

This is so easy - just mix all the ingredients together, put in the fridge overnight and serve!

Think I will track down a mini sized crunchie as a chocolate treat and only four syns! Can't wait to relax tomorrow night with a G & t (or two and a film). Its been a long aul week in work.

Wish the weather would pick up as I'd plans for long dog walks this weekend to offset the G&T.

I'm actually glad now that I picked Monday over thursday as class day as it will keep me on the straight and narrow on saturday / sunday when I normally eat the most.

Do you eat your dinner before you go to class? Mine is at 7.30pm so not sure what to do.............

If it helps, my weigh in is also 7.30pm on a thursday night, my daily routine is this -
Breakfast before 9am, lunch no later than 1pm drink as normal till 5pm then nothing more till after weigh in, i get in around 9pm as help pack up and my tea is cooked waiting for my by ny hubby. I also wear the same clothes every week.

Last night i successfully achieved a 2.5lb loss :T but may have to work extra hard this week to keep on the straight and narrow after we had a group night out and went for a curry. 7 of us went. I had half a poppadom, mixed special starter, mushroom rice, chicken tikka rogan josh and not even half of a red onion naan bread. Stuck to diet cokes too unlike the other ladies who hit the alcohol. Today have meal planned for the whole week and after drs app in a min will be shopping just for those bits that i need.
Welcome back MM. Good luck to anyone heading towards the scales today.
