i have been really really bad over the weekend, the problem i have is all the food i eat is free, so at the end of the day when i come to eat my syns. I struggle. If i have a freddo i get the taste of chocolate i will spend the next couple of days eating it. Like i did all weekend! same with crisps.

Can you give me some ideas how to use my syns better?

Also we are throwing a family party this weekend can anyone recommend so buffet ideas i can make sw style.

There are times that I can eat treats in moderation. There are times that I can't. When I know that I can't, I simply avoid eating that particular food.

Maybe you need to do that. If one bit of chocolate wont be enough - just don't have any. That way, you don't get the taste for it.

You can use your syns within your meals rather than saving them for treats.

    Morning everyone!!
Hope you all had a good weekend?
I'm finding that the weekends are where I'm tending to struggle, mainly because our weekends tend to be very spontaneous so I find it difficult to plan meals around that! Friday was fine, was good all day, went to the pub after work and had two single malibu and diet cokes (5) then went home and cooked SW sweet and sour with loads of superfree. Was quite pleased with myself....but then saturday it all went wrong. I had smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for breakfast (milk..hea) then met some friends at the pub at lunchtime. I stuck to diet coke all day except for three single malibus...which over the space of ten hours when everyone else was drinking I think is practically saint like!!:A but I didnt get home till 11 so I had nothing else to eat all day. I'm hoping this is better that getting a takeaway on the way home like we usually would, but I'm not sure really?!

Say this and believe it. Don't question it.

Just remember "anything is better than nothing". Ok, you might not have stuck to the plan 100% but you didn't have a takeaway on the way home.

This is a real positive and you should be proud of yourself as you changed a habit. Well done :T

Buffets are great! There are loads of SW friendly things you can do. Take the skin off chicken drumsticks and marinade them in herbs and spices (and yogurt, if you like chicken tikka!) then roast them in the oven. Pasta and rice salads are easily made up and eaten cold and, dependent on what you use to bind them they can either be free or low syn. You could make up a free paella and serve it cold. Grill bacon (fat removed) and chicken breast and make a caesar salad with low fat dressing seperate. Make syn free wedges and the crustless syn free quiche. Using fat free fromage frais you could make potato salad or coronation chicken (just add curry powder). Make up a huge salad and also a fruit salad. The SW website has loads of recipes for things like the chicken drumsticks and also things like syn free pakoras that could be good for a buffet.

With buffets, its often the extra nibbles like crisps and dips that catch you out so try and have the willpower to resist if you do put them out for your guests.

Made the Hairy Dieters lamb, potato and spinach curry on Sat and had it for tea last night, it was delicious (OH agreed) and got half left for tea tomorrow :)

Sounds lush - recipe? Pretty please x

You don't have to use syns to be "naughty" - use them as extras in your otherwise free meals. I tend to use about half my syns in this way, and the other half as treats. Here's some examples that I do...

    - Adding sauces, gravies, salad dressings, etc to your meals if you like them can use a few syns (depending on calories)
    - If you're following EE, have a second healthy extra and syn it, that's normally about 5-6 syns
    - Use real oil where frylight just doesn't work as well (e.g. I tried but don't like SW style roasties!) and syn it.
    - Add a small amount of healthy fats (e.g. avocado, almonds) to your meals/snacks and syn them
    - Have some cooked/dried fruits or juice, as these all have syn values

There's also saving your syns for a proper treat once a week. This is a tweak to the program but can work if you are able to restrain yourself. Pre-SW, I used to only have dessert once a week. I may go back to this actually, as I find I'm struggling more by having a small treat each day. Mainly because the rest of the box is still sitting there, tempting me to eat it.

I'm one that saves syns. I use about 30 through the week for sauces and dressings and save the rest. I'm not advocating my choices but I have most of mine for wine at weekends. As I've given up weekday drinking (other than special occasions) my tolerance is lowered so if I was to go over syns I'd be absolutely legless!:rotfl:I'm another who finds it difficult to stop with snacks so I used to only buy crisp or biscuit flavours for DH that I didn't like.

Although I'm at target now I do go to group every few weeks. It's partly to keep on track and partly to catch up with the many friends I've made there. I never weigh at home and use how my clothes fit as a guide to how I'm doing. I've put a skirt on today that's feeling much snugger than usual.:o That's probably because I've had quite a few syns yesterday but today's massive stir-fry will soon sort that.

Dizzy, if you know your lifestyle has spontanoeous weekends then I'd build that in. Keep planning rigidly for weekdays so that you can afford a non-SW meal/drinks at weekends. I find SW fits in really well as I'm planning anyway to stay in budget/save time/avoid waste etc so to eat healthy the SW way is just an added bonus!

I think you can get a bit obsessive when you're completely focussed on losing weight. It didn't bother me hugely as I transalated it as being determined to acheive my goal. Now I've got there I'm a lot more relaxed, knowing that if the weight did start to creep up I know exactly what to do to get back.
