Just bought SW mag Jan/Feb and got the Mirror today, the voucher for free membership is valid until the 12th....which is annoying as I was waiting for the 15th (1st tuesday child free!) so now im thinking I might sign up this tues but in the evening, my eldest will just have to stay in and babysit for me
I took a SW mag to bed the other night and went to sleep with my tummy rumbling! the food looks lovely and I love how I can cook the same for the family.
Not officially started yet but I went down the market today and stocked up on fruit and veg, its all pretty cheap on the market but I tend to go towards whats the best value, sweet peppers today, big bag for a quid! then its usually soup but im getting confused about whats free depending on what you do with it...ie blending for smoothies or stewing fruit?Good enough club member number 140 -
If you blend for smoothies or stew fruit you have to count it.I am a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Mortgage Free Wannabe & Local Money Saving Scotland & Disability Money Matters. Sugajen The majority of vegetables are superfree foods, peas and some beans are the exceptions and become free foods. These can all be eaten raw, cooked, blended etc.
Fruits on the other hand can only be eaten in their raw natural state to be classed as superfree. This is because when cooked or blended or juiced they release sugars which then trigger your hunger pangs making you consume more calories than you would if you ate just an apple for example. So eaten in anything but the raw state becomes synned.
A lot of the groups are child friendly so if you prefer to go while you have yours with you you wont be turned away.
Another thing to think about is if you start eating relatively SW foods before starting a group you will not see the initial weigh loss most new members get in their first week or two. I started this way to see if my son could tell any difference between normal home cooked meals and SW. Unfortunatley during those 2 weeks we both lost about 9lb which doesnt show on your progress. Now i have lost 2.5st my son 3.5st but our books dont show those losses.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

Ahh this helps me alot, THANK YOU! so veg is anything goes, this is great because Im not big on fruit unless its straight out the fruit bowl anyway!
I was unsure about taking my 4 yr old, he would get bored and I might not be able to concentrate, besides an evening weigh in will force me to go to the gym in the morning :rotfl:
Also didnt look that way about easing myself in, I was going to try a couple of things beforehand but dont think Ill bother now, theres only 3 days before I sign up anyway but I would like every lb lost to be countedI will instead use those 3 days to look through my mags and take notes of recipes and make some meal plans and shopping lists!
Quick question.... Has SW changed alot since last year? Ive heard rumours of things not being free anymore....does this mean the October magazine info will be irrelevent? Dont want to be taking meal ideas from it if its no good. TIA xGood enough club member number 140 -
A few things have changed now like the amount of skimmed milk allowed per day, it used to be 375ml but has dropped to 350ml, some of the other milk types have altered too. Some cereals have increased in the amount you can have per day others decreased.
Pasta in sauce has now got a syn value of 4.5 according to the new books but the old ones it was free. So as meal plans would go i think i would just go along with them as they would be pretty much current as the website updates things all the times, the books would only be once a year.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

Stef, can I just say thanks for all the info you give out.
You seem to be the fountain of all knowledge, and let me tell you, I need all the help I can get
Thank you also, to all the others that welcome us noobies with open arms and answer all our questions.
I plan to be here for the long haul and hope to get to know you all better over the coming months.
This is such a friendly thread, and I am beginning to feel right at home.
Thank you :T0 -
Sharalee No thanks needed, it wasn't that long ago i were in the same position as you noobies and i also came in armed with questions so the knowledge i have now is recycled from some of the longer standing members here or from group.
Anyone guess how im spending my saturday night?
Sitting with the old and new books on my lap, a pen in one hand and a highlighter in the other. Going over every item in the syns list marking them on which has gone up or down in value between books so i do not become complacent with 'thinking' i know all the syn values and i am shocked at how many things have changed, alot are only subtle changes like 0.5 syns here and there but others are considerably more. Will carry on for now as only just made it past the bakery items :j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j
