Can you amend the official SW recipe for chicken curry as it lists lots of fresh ingredients and I wondered whether you could use ground? I am not really a cooker from scratch so need to make it as easy as poss and with a baby don't always have time to shop for fresh herbs etc, thanks :)

Extra Easy Bacon and Lentil Soup. Found on Google from the Extra Easy Cook Book.
    http://slimming-world-recipes.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/slimming-world-tomato-lentil-and-bacon.html

198g/7oz lean bacon rashers, cut into bite-sized pieces
1 onion, peeled and finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, peeled and crushed
    1 tsp finely grated ginger
    2 sticks celery, finely chopped
1 large potato, peeled and cut into 1cm/½in dice
908ml/32fl oz boiling water or vegetable stock
    1 tbsp mild curry powder
    127g/4½oz dried red lentils
    6 plum tomatoes, chopped
    2-3 tbsp finely chopped coriander
salt and freshly ground black pepper

    1. Place a large non-stick saucepan over a high heat. Add the bacon and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes. Add the onion, garlic, ginger, celery, potato and carrot and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes.

    2. Add the remaining ingredients (except the coriander and seasoning) and bring to the boil. Cover and simmer gently for 15-20 minutes or until the lentils are cooked and softened.

    3. Stir in the chopped coriander, season well and ladle into warmed bowls serving immediately.

If you Google for SW recipes, you can find most of them.

    You're welcome.:D

I like the Chicken Noodle soup from the EE book too. Dried pulses sometimes give me indigestion !

    Hi Peeps,

I'm keeping going on the plan, but I must say it's costing me alot of money. I know eating rubbish costs alot too, but fresh fruit and veg in abundance is very expensive (if you eat as much as I'm doing!)

I know I could cut down, but the plan says eat as much F&V as you like and it's keeping me off the biscuits and choc that's still left over from Christmas. Eating alot of the good stuff is what's working! But Jan is a belt tightening month, and I don't think I can keep spending...

Also, Fat Free yog like Shape and Activia is expensive. The only local shop to me is Sainsburys, anyone know of a Sainsburys FF yog that's Free too like activia or shape?

Thanks in advance and sorry to be negative, but I'm not sure eating healthily goes hand in hand with being strict with the pennies?

What a shame you can't get to an Aldi or a Lidl frogga, their f&v is really good value for money. I've looked up yogurt and the Be Good to Yourself 1% is free. I'm not a huge yogurt fan but I do quite enjoy a dollop on frozen berries or a banana. Incidentally I use their 10 stock cubes, perfectly acceptable.

My standby in case I get caught out without anything to eat is to keep a banana and/or satsuma in my bag. Obviously perishable but it's stopped me from buying sandwiches or worse when I've been out over a mealtime.

sungiggs, absolutely no problem adapting the recipes to dried herbs and spices. I do it myself. You just need to check that any substitutes you use are still free (as are all herbs and spices).

FE, I'm no expert at SW chips either. I have more luck with Sweet Potato wedges. If chips are your thing then I'd recommend McCain's Rustic Chips. They are only 1.5 syns for 100g so you could eat a whole bag and still stay within syns!:rotfl:Seriously, they are really big chips and I find a small handful enough alongside the gammon, tomato, mushrooms, mushy peas or whatever else I'm having.

Today I'm starting on my third:eek: course of antibiotics in as many weeks. Lack of appetite seems to go alongside this infection so hopefully I'm still in target range. Jeans tell me I am.;)

I'm back now for 2013 & really motivated, got to get through this w/e then starting on Tuesday! I'm making a meal planner & shopping list & really excited about starting to shift this horrible weight!

Does anyone have any god mse/cheap/healthy recipes I tend to do green or EE but there are 6 of us to feed & I much prefer to cook one meal for all of us (which is why I love SW so much)

    Hello everyone,

I realise I am a bit late but 'Happy New Year' to you all

I have been lurking around in the background again for a while - lost my way food-wise for about a month before Xmas and am just getting back in to the SW frame-of-mind again. Luckily not too much damage done as I was at target before I went off course so only about 7lbs or so to come back off.

Stef - when you make soups do you blend them? I have vague memories or reading somewhere that blending them affected the syn value (or am I going mad?). I would really like to get into making home-made soups and was going to invest in a blender but didn't want too if this was the case?

Have a good weekend all ;)
