ETA Can you eat it cold?
I only ever eat my cous cous cold
I mix in cucumber, sweetcorn etc as you do for a pasta salad
When making it use a veg or chicken stockcube for extra flavour
It's lovely with chicken or things like tagine/light curries
Squirt of lemon or lime and some fresh corriander add with plain chicken is yummy.
i always make some cous cous salad/s to go with bbqs etc as its lovely and tastes really fresh
I have tried it with diced apple added (alongside sweetcorn/cucumber) and loved it.
You can get giant cous cous now too but I've never tried that one
Just trying to eat my porridge before I get ready as I can't decide what to wear for work!************************************

I was the same and had an unopened box in the cupboard for longer than I care to remember - I'd not used it as I didn't think it would go down too well with the OH. :rotfl:
However I first made a salad similar to Lushlifesaver; mine was with red onion, cucumber, chopped tomatoes, coriander and squeeze of lemon - the OH loved it and we've had several variations since, including warm with roasted veggies tossed through it.
I have found it absolutely brilliant to quickly make up a very small quantity when stuck for something to have for lunch and wish I had discovered this long ago. I've since bought another bigger box and have ideas of other variations I would like to try, such as some spicy dressings, roasted carrots, squash or beetroot.Mortgage

Good Morning all and welcome to any newbies who snook in over night. Busy day for me today as hubby has to go to job centre about one of those WRAG appointments, dont know how long they last or anything else so going along for the ride as i know he will end up overloaded with info and unable to absorb it all. Then got to take daughter to have her dermal anchor looked at as the top popped off last night
No meal plan as yet just know its another SE day and brekkie will be a bowl of melon, pineapple, strawberries and banana.
As for cous cous i enjoy eating it much better than pasta. All though it can be messy if eaten with a fork instead of a spoon - stuff gets everywhere.
If you want it warm swap the oil in this recipe for frylight

Or quick and easy served with an extra lot of veg or salad

I use Quark in risotto and it isn't cheesy at all, in fact I need to add parmesan to give it a bit of a cheesy taste. I would say just add a bit at a time though as the sourness can overpower it a bit if you add too much - I find half a tub is enough for 4 portions.
I like pasta or something with rice as a meal that I can reheat the next day - we're usually in late (11pm) once a week so always do something like spag bol, pasta with pesto and roast veg or Thai curry and rice- they're often nicer the next day!sharalee99 wrote: »I have a bag of couscous in the cupboard.

I'm the same, big bag of cous cous and rarely use it. I used to make tabbouleh which is normally bulgur wheat but my mum does it with cous cous, as is done in this recipe and it's lovely - the sharp flavours of onion, mint and lemon juice really make it stand out.
Welcome to the thread Dory and Jill  Good to see so many new faces!
I wasn't so good last nightIntended to save syns for the weekend but after I had my nightly 5 syn treat I had some more chocolate so definitely used all my syns and then probably a few more. Not the end of the world by any means but am a bit annoyed. I think it's because I didn't really enjoy my tea and didn't feel satisfied by it - made a fish pie and it was ok, but was nowhere near as good as I'd hoped and wasn't that filling either. Got some for lunch today and that'll be fine as won't eat between lunch and tea, but as an evening meal I wasn't overly impressed. Walked to work today (as penance
) so that should help but going to start saving syns tonight in prep for wine on Sat.
EE today:
B: Porridge (B), milk (A), banana
L: L/O fish pie (1), satsuma
T: Thai chicken curry (1), rice
S: WW yogurt, Freddo (5)

Thanks for the warm welcome.
I'm going to study the book today and post my menu later. Just about to tuck into porridge (B) and a banana and hot Robinsons sugar free blackcurrant.0 -

Awhh, thanks sukeyboo. Hope your chat goes well tonight.
All this talk of holidays. I'm stuck even if I wanted to keep going to Group then, as I take 6 weeks away every Summer.
It's still so cold out there. I want Spring, and I want it now
Today's:
B. Muller light cherry yog with 35g muesli (HexB)
L. Roasted salmon with chilli, broccoli and tomatoes.
Snack. Apple and an orange
D. Chicken and LO veggie soup.
SS milk in coffeees.
Welcome to all the newbies
Quite agree with you Banjo - it is far too cold out there and as it is officially Spring on Friday I do hope it will warm up soon.
Had a chat with OH last night about the 'weekend eating/drinking situation' - he didn't realise I was feeling so down about it. I think it was Maman who mentioned about him not realising it was a ‘lifestyle change and not a diet’ and she was right – he assumed that once I had lost the weight I needed to then I could go back to eating what I did before. I explained that I am happy to go out at weekends but that I need to make more healthy choices – hopefully this will work out but I guess the next few weekends will be the ‘proof in the pudding’ so to speak
Planned meals for today are EE:
B: Boiled egg with slice of wholemeal toast from 800g loaf (HE ‘B’), bowl of fresh fruit salad, small glass of juice (2 syns)
L: Large mixed SF salad with x3 Babybel Light (HE ‘A’), Muller Light fat-free Greek style Lemon yogurt (1/2 syn)
T: Oven baked chicken breast in piri-piri seasoning with jacket potato and large mixed SF salad
S &Banana, satsuma, apple, green tea, Options hot choc (2 syns)
Syns for the day (as planned at the moment) 4½
With regards to the ‘couscous’ discussion, I love the stuff – have it cold for lunch at work at least two days per week mixed with peppers, sugar-snap peas, cherry toms, cucumber etc. and then add either prawns or the tinned mackerel in spicy tomato sauce – yummy
Have a good day everyone :T0 -

Thanks Blowden I will try risotto with quark but not sure when as hubby still doesn't fancy it (it's unusual too, he is very supportive of the SW plan and follows it to a degree him self including cooking most of our meals), never mind I'll just cut the quantitiy of everything down and have it for lunch one day. Still not sure about tonights tea, It'll probabally end up being a jacket potato again just because it's easy.0 -
After a bad week I weighed this morning and my scales show a loss of 0.25 lbs. So at worst the SW scales tonight should only show a small gain. So I'm very pleased and determined to stay on track and hopefully have a good loss next week.0
