It sucks to be me today, too! :(

All through last week I was feeling as light as a feather and with extra spring in my step. I saw some new lows on the bathroom scales and was confident of showing a good loss for my 'official' Monday morning weigh-in.

Instead of that, it seems this week my body has other ideas and I am feeling so heavy and bloated - the bathroom scales are telling me I now weigh 1lb more than when I started. I know I had a bad night on Saturday but really can't see how that would account for a fluctuation of five pounds in a matter of a few days.

    I'll check again tomorrow.
Stay away from the scales during the week! I noticed a few people on here say about weight fluctuations when weighing at different times of the day so decided to embark on my own experiment.

I weighed first thing in the morning after that first Wee of the day, scales show 12.5stone, then go through till lunch, eat and weigh scales now show 12.8, wait till around 7pm after tea has been eaten and the scales can go up to 13 stone quite easily yet when i step on the WII board it will tell you that the average person fluctuates by 2.2lb throughout the day.

Instead of going by what the scales say take measurements and go by those, just because the scales arent showing a loss the tape measure may.

Been for my fasting blood tests. While nice nurse was drawing 5, yes 5  tubes of blood, she informed me I have to go back this afternoon for more. :( Thank heaven they're not fasting ones too or I would collapse with hunger.
All I can do is wait now, and wait for a date for the ultrasound.
    ** Sighs slowly**

Hope everyone is having an ok Monday :)

    Good morning everyone

I apologise in advance for the essay but here goes ……

I don’t post very often but read all the time (I am quite a shy person and not very good at expressing myself).

I need some advice from you lovely helpful bunch :T

I have been at my target for several months – I don’t go to group for two reasons, one is as I have just mentioned, I am not very good with large groups of people and two, there isn’t one nearby at a convenient time for me.

My big problem is I think similar to Banjo’s – my OH seems to want to sabotage my weight loss. All week I am absolutely fine sticking to SW plan as I am in control of all my meals - I do all the cooking – weekends are a disaster as we tend to either eat out or get take-aways etc. He gets funny with me if I don’t eat the same things as him – I get the ‘if you’re not eating/drinking it then I won’t have it either’ attitude but then when I start to put a few lbs back on (which I have done in the last few weeks) he comments that I am looking a bit ‘podgy!’. It seems I can’t win. My target weight is 8st 4lb but over the last few weeks I have gone back up to 8st 9lb and although I know that may seem low to other people I do feel bigger at that weight and my size 10’s are starting to feel uncomfortable.

I know deep down that it is up to me to control what I put in my mouth but it is so difficult when it creates an awkward situation at home – I tend to just give in and eat/drink whatever he wants just for a quiet life :(

Once again, sorry for the rant

Sharalee hope you get all the results you need to put your mind at rest. Your lucky they can get blood out of you i end up looking like a bruised pin cushion after mine.

Sukeyboo perhaps its time to give your OH the ultimate that he can have you one of two ways - fat and miserable or slim and happy. As harsh as that sounds he cant sit behind you putting pressure on you to eat/drink beyond what you are happy with to then complain you have gained weight. While i appreciate you too are responsible to some extreme over what you eat if the support network isnt there then you will be stuck in a vicious circle which will ultimately start to mess with your mental health.
You can eat out and choose sensibly and use syns for drink or use syns for meals but go easy on the drink and opt for the diet soft drinks but as you know too well when you start doing both all the hard work you have put in will be undone a lot quicker than it took to lose the weight.

Well I think you expressed yourself very well sukey!! And by getting to target you obviously have the willpower and determination it takes so :T there too!
I think you have two choices which are really about you and OH. I save my syns for weekends because I prefer it that way. I'd rather have something to look forward to at the weekend to make it different rather than a small daily treat. I save about 80 syns for weekends and use the rest for the odd bit of gravy or sauce during the week. That's one choice and being at target you could probably be a little more generous.

The other choice is to have a serious talk with your DH about how difficult he's making it for you and try to bring him round or just use your amazing willpower (already proven) to ignore his sulks if you refuse to have the same food as him. Giving in to him to keep the peace is an option but you don't have to do it if you don't want to.

It's surprising how much about food/eating/dieting etc is a mind thing. I'd never thought about it before I joined SW.

Sorry if I'm being too blunt, I know I can be bossy:o.

    Good Morning all,

I'm joining slimming world tonight!!! been lurking on here and read some friends books so already worked out foods etc...i think!!

any advice for first meeting?! do i have to talk a lot?! I'm quite shy so worried about that part!!

    xx

    Welcome Moomin,

All I would add to what Stef said is that in our class new starters are usually asked during the discussion if they have ever done SW or other diets before and if they want to lose weight for a particular reason. it normally becomes clear quite quickly who likes to talk and who prefers to listen, and people aren't made to share any more than they want to. I would say you might surprise yourself though -I am quite shy and joined on my own, not knowing anybody (which was a bit of an ordeal) but now I have a few ladies that I always sit with and have even started helping out with the weighing- groups tend to be really friendly and welcoming so you'll be fine :)

    Good day to all,

After starting well, I hit a little bit of a brick wall recently after having 3 bad weeks in a row (I was ill, buried a friend and then had a celebration to attend, which I did, despite feeling 'meh'), this meant that at my last weigh-in, I'd gained 1.5lbs. :( I know its my own fault as I'm a comfort eater.
However, this week I'm back on track and hoping to shift those 1.5lbs and hopefully more! Thats fighting talk! :)

I've had a blitz of my food cupboards and found an unopened packet of oat bran. Can't say I've ever used it before and don't even remember why I bought it!
It looks like finely ground porridge oats but does anyone know if this can be counted as a HE B? And if so, any idea if it would be in the same qty as porridge? (the book states 35g of unflavoured porridge oats).

I've also found that Tesco sell a <5% fat version of pork mince, any ideas if this can this be used freely like other lean meats or do you think it would have a syn value (again, the book only mentions 8% fat which is syned).
If no-one can help, then I'll ask at group on Wed and post a reply, incase anyone else would be interested.

Well, I'd better get on with it, good luck to everyone. xx
    Keep going, don't lose motivation!

Good luck and well done for getting back on the wagon.

30g of Mornflake oatbran is a HEB.

Just noticed Tesco's have an extra lean pork mince that's free so less than 5% should be pretty safe.

Kiwi - in yet another case of 'do as I say not as I do' :o don't peek! I used to do it every week and it pretty much always gave me the same result as the SW scales (as in weight change once I accounted for the difference in the scales). Last week I weighed at home half an hour before going to fat club and it said I'd put on 1.5 for no reason, and I nearly cried off going to class because of it but it turned out I'd lost 1.5. No idea where this difference came from because as I say, I know the discrepancy between the scales and accounted for it. Not quite the same thing I know but our bodies can do funny things and if you've stuck to it and feel lighter you WILL lose!

I am now heeding my own advice and only weighing at fat club at the designated time! :)

Sukey - can't add any more to what Maman and Stef have said but agree with them wholeheartedly. It is a difficult conversation to have but if it works it will be worth it. Good luck :)

Mornflake oatbran is 30g for HEB as shown on website.
Any of the meats such as pork or beef mince that is below 5% fat is the one that is considered free. At one time Tesco were the only store to offer this but it is slowly spreading through the other stores now.

I think many of us would be over the moon with just a 1.5lb gain following 3 weeks off plan. Well done for jumping back on the wagon with vim and vigour.
