well got weighed 1lb off i know you will all say well its a pound but totaly stuck to it didnt drink alcohol or go out no takeaway and still only a 1lb this is what happens if im realy good i loose hardley anything if im even a bit bad i put anything from 1lb to 2 1/2 on so not doing so well at the moment kind of stuck did red and green this week mostly red to see if it would make a difference lol it didnt any ideas thanks x:(
Are you still having 1/3rd superfree with your red/green days as this is also a factor at losing weight. I know some of the long term members say 'its not a stipulation of the plan when it was first introduced' but if you read the opening paragraphs it is recommended. Secondly what types of meat are you having on your red days? In group it is recommended to restrict intake of red meat to a couple of times a week and up fish consumption.
Only other things are to weigh and recheck all of you HEX's as shown on this thread this week a simple misunderstanding led to two members purchasing the wrong biscuits that have now become HEB so have gone over on syns and missed the HEB option.
The other group recommendation is success express.

Good morning all, not long back from the drs and asked the vital question - Does inflammation reduce weight loss? Gp point blank said no, despite me reading up online that it does so really fed up over this.
    <>
On another plus side, reading the info about inflammation and weight loss it also confirms something that has been said in group to eat more fish in the diet as we need the omega 3. In the article it said -

One of the primary causes of long-term weight gain is inflammation.
Inflammation is the tinder that creates a firestorm of metabolic and circulatory problems that ultimately mitigate your weight loss attempts. If you want weight loss to be PERMANENT, you have to deal with the underlying problems. Controlling inflammation is VITAL for weight loss and long term weight management.Take an Omega 3 supplement.
Eicosanoids from Omega 3 fats are anti-inflammatory. Eicosanoids from Omega 6 fats are pro-inflammatory. It’s common to have too much omega 6 in the diet and not enough omega 3.

So i have just popped a fish oil capsule and will do for the next month now to see if this helps. God this is certainly a game of swings and roundabouts!

Stef - I'll ask my OH see if he knows anything about this- I've probably said before that his PhD was in obesity biochemistry so I know (I had to proofread his thesis) that obesity creates an inflammatory state but I'm not sure if it works in reverse, i.e. the inflammation affecting weight loss. I'll report back what he says.

I take Omega 3 rich oils (especially EPA) daily as I have creaky joints and also it's meant to help with keratosis pilaris which I've had for years. (Excuse the science coming, but you seem to have already done a fair bit of background research so may be interesting) My job before last was researching how n-3 fatty acids (mainly EPA) are effective in arthritis - the bit above about eicosanoids is absolutely true, n-3s act by diverting a pathway that would normally be very inflammatory (from n-6 FAs) down a less inflammatory route, and also suppress the production of pro-inflammatory agents. If inflammation does prevent weight loss then it would stand to reason that taking n-3s will help. Tbh I would take them anyway, they have a whole host of benefits :)

Anyway, enough of that, too much like work ;) EE today:
    B: Porridge (B), milk (A), banana
L: New potatoes, bolognese sauce, carrots
T: Beef stir fry and egg fried rice
S: Freddo (5), maybe something else

OH has a friend coming for the weekend and they want to go for a curry and a few drinks, so am saving a few syns for that. Won't be a big night out though, thank God!

Have a good day folks :)

My pancake plan for last night didn’t work – Tesco had run out of things by the time I got there.

In the end we decided to try the SW pancakes. They weren’t too bad. Ok they did taste a bit like a sweet omelette but desperate times call for desperate measures. Added some chopped banana and a toffee mullerlight yogurt and they were quite yummy. Plus the satisfaction of knowing they were syn free was great.

It’s weigh in night tonight and I always weigh at home in the morning first. I’m chuffed as it shows a 4.5lb loss. I know it wont be that much at SW tonight but it will still show a loss so I’ll still be happy.

    EE menu for today:

    B: Mullerlight and banana

L: Homemade veg soup and 2 x nimble (HEB)

    S: Grapes and apple

D: Spaghetti carbonara (parmesan using HEA and pancetta syned) with cheese and garlic flat bread also syned). Can’t remember the exact syns off the top of my head but I think it works out about 17. I’m fine with going two syns over after I’ve been weighed in for the week.
  • hi know what you mean about checking the healthy extras did it a couple of weeks ago when i bought the wrong bread luckily only had 2 slices befor i checked it ,the meat ive been eating is mostly chicken ,with steak, pork ,bacon now and again i take off all the skin fat ect eat prawns and eggs have salad or veg with all meals .usualy ,healthy extras are weetabix or porridge with lots of fruit or bread ,this week while on red have been having the odd baked potato the size of a computer mouse lol

Good morning all, not long back from the drs and asked the vital question - Does inflammation reduce weight loss? Gp point blank said no, despite me reading up online that it does so really fed up over this. Had blood tests before xmas and looking at the results from those and the ones prior to that i have no issues with thyroid. Said i am peeved at realistically losing just 1lb since going back in new year and just got a blanket eat less calories. In my defence said i am following SW, show my food diaries to consultant and all is above board there. I do between 30-60 mins a day on the wii fit - totalled 10 hours and 5 mins over 18 days when looking at stats yesterday so im not being lazy and said i have now purchased the wrist weights doing 1000 reps in 10 mins while on the wii. So he just said i need to look at the calories going in v the ones being burnt off and a referral to the weight loss clinic to have counselling because perhaps i am obsessing too much over it but it will also open up the avenue to other weight loss options and access to the gym :(
Trying now to be upbeat today and crack on
    Soooooo ee day today.
B, f/f nat yog with stawberries and banana
L, hm soup = yes its still going, soup mix, toms, celery, leek, onion, carrots.
T, Sausages, mash and veg. 1 syn for sausages, a few syns for butter, milk from allowance.

Shame that your doctor appeared to be a bit uncaring but it's good that you are now going to get access to the gym etc - good luck and keep strong

Yes I love that site, I also have a meal planner, I used to batch cook on a 4-weekly basis but do it on a weekly basis now, that way its not as much! I got a meal planner spreadsheet from this site & I love it, it also calculates my shopping list, which I take with me & saves me a fortune, I am in the process of slowly adding SW meals as well, PM me if you want a copy.

As I thought a gain this week of 0.5

    So todays EE Plan

B - Berries, melon, pineapple, FF yoghurt
L - HM Bacon & lentil soup, melon, pineapple
    D - Mexican Bake (a) broccoli, cauliflower
    S - Toffee muller, banana

3 syns for 150ml skimmed milk for coffee
    B - 2 alpen lights

Hubby is taking me out Saturday night for Valentines - Indian Buffet :eek:so need to be really good as I have no idea what syns I will need, I will prob have mixed pakora with salad to start then a little of each curry, with boiled rice not creamy ones as I don't like them and a little naan bread. I won't have any dessert unless their is fruit salad, I can take it or leave it.

I think the kebabs are quite low in syns for starters and chapatti instead of nann bread!

Im cooking a lamb and vegetable pilaf tonight syn free too! ill stick the recipe up tomorrow!
  • Good morning to our growing band

Well it's wet and windy and rather gloomy here. I feel hungry today after my swim, so today looks like this:

    B. Muller light vanilla yog with 30g muesli Hex B
    L. Beef, salad leaves, tomatoes, beetroot and boiled egg.
    D. Chicken stew with broccoli.

    SS milk in coffees.

Looks like I WILL have a SW friendly Valentines after all. My wife has just texted me that she is going to a works do on Valentines. Apart from the short notice, I'm peeved, I mean what sort of works Valentines do is that where no spouses/partners allowed?

I've got a good mind to eat all the fillet steak myself :(

    B 2 slices bacon,2 egg ommelette
    S half a melon chopped
    T Rice,chicken tomatoes onion,mushrooms
Syns smallest cadbury fruit and nut

    HE B Ryvita.

They use pizza dough mix instead of pastry for pies. we tried it before i started this and it really is lovely. anyone any idea of the syn value?

All I can find is a pack of the mix before cooking at 24.5 syns for 145g. Perhaps someone is more skilled at using the syn tools?

Did you miss out a meal on your menu cherub? It's a good idea to have a fruit snack after no SFs with your breakfast but I don't see any lunch or HEA (unless used for drinks).

lush, you seem short of HEXs and syns today too. Like you I'm worried that I'll get too skinny (currently 3lbs below target range) but I find if I keep eating on plan all the time I keep losing.

mymamma, it must be so frustrating following SE without success IYSWIM;) Hopefully it will catch up next week and give a good loss.

fannyanna, I sometines substitute smoked bacon for pancetta. I adapted this
    http://uktv.co.uk/food/recipe/aid/588087
for SW (left out chorizo) and it ended up just the 0.5 syns per sausage.

stef, spookily I was thinking along similar lines myself this morning. Logic tells me that inflammation must cause some weight gain surely. My thinking was (sorry if TMI) that the visible swelling I had from a kidney infection must have been taking liquid from somewhere?? Keep plugging away. I always tell myself that whatever else, even when SW isn't working 100% for whatever reason at least it's a healthy way to eat.
