    Morning all,

Good morning all, not long back from the drs and asked the vital question - Does inflammation reduce weight loss? Gp point blank said no, despite me reading up online that it does so really fed up over this. <>

One of the primary causes of long-term weight gain is inflammation.
Inflammation is the tinder that creates a firestorm of metabolic and circulatory problems that ultimately mitigate your weight loss attempts. If you want weight loss to be PERMANENT, you have to deal with the underlying problems. Controlling inflammation is VITAL for weight loss and long term weight management.

Stef - right, I asked OH about the above and we ended up having quite a long discussion about it. The long and the short of it is that it's likely the GP is right, inflammation isn't making a great deal of difference to your losses. We had a look at a few things online that say that it does, and as well as seeming to have an agenda (most seem to be pushing some form of diet) and not referencing any of their information, they seem to have got the process the wrong way round. If, as they suggest, inflammation leads to fat accumulation then it would stand to reason that this inflammation would also prevent fat loss. However it is the other way round, it is the fat that comes first and leads to inflammation, so that theory doesn't hold. Also, since obesity causes a mild inflammatory state (fat cells secrete pro-inflammatory agents) it would suggest that anyone who is obese would struggle to lose weight for this reason, which isn't the case. I understand you may have other conditions which cause inflammation but according to the research there is nothing to suggest this would interfere with weight loss. I'm sorry that isn't what you want to hear and I can't offer any suggestions - personally I would take the fish oils anyway for other reasons and you can see for yourself if they make a difference to you personally.

Does the Omega 3 actually do anything for keratosis pilaris? My son has it and even though it doesn't bother him it would be great if something could make it fade a bit. He was given a cream when he was much younger but that didn't work so we haven't bothered with anything else.

As I said, I've had KP for years but didn't really start trying to find ways to clear it up until last year. I'm not sure how much effect the fish oils had as I combined this with a number of other techniques but it has now almost disappeared, so I'll tell you what I've been doing:
    - 1 x omega 3 capsule per day
    - rubbing the affected area with a dry loofah once or twice a week before a shower for about 30 secs, to remove the keratin plugs. This looks a bit brutal as it goes bright red (I do it quite hard) but doesn't hurt, looks fine after a shower and I think this is the thing that really makes the difference
    - I don't use any shower gel or anything on it in the shower, just water as any detergents will dry the skin out and make it worse
    - Use urea cream (Eucerin) once a week after a shower, and either this or a thick moisturiser for dry skin after every other shower. Eucerin is good but expensive and doesn't smell that nice; I like Aldi's Lacura for mature skin - cheap (1.39 for 500ml I think), thick, does a great job and smells like Drumstick lollies!

It has made such a difference to me - I've had it since I was a teenager so am made up by how much it has disappeared, plus even though the above sounds like a bit of a faff it's all second nature now. Let me know if your son tries it and how he gets on :)

Right, surgery closed, back to the old dieting lark! ;) EE for me today:

    B: 2 x small toast (B), 60g Lowlow spread (A), ham, pineapple
L: L/O beef stir fry and rice, satsuma
T: Beef stir fry and rice
    S: Yogurt (1), milk for drinks (4)

    Have a good day all!

  • Recorded 2 lb loss at WI today, which I feel is okayish.

The valentine treat was a mini packet of Lovehearts. They'll do for my DD. I was fearful it was going to be Joe's sausage again.

Strange day today. I mean that I'm feeling strange. Wife gave me a Valentine gift this morning of 6 bars of chilli dark chocolate. I'm okay with that I'll just have a couple of squares now and again and syn them.

    B. muller light vanilla yog with summer fruits.
    L. Leftover chicken stew with wholemeal sub roll HExB
    D. Lots of fillet steak, salad leaves including my favourite - Lambs Lettuce. Champagne and chilli choc - what the 'eck
