A lot of things that were originally endorsed as being healthy 'free' extras like the doritos or the scan bran cake have now been classed as syns because people took it to the extreme and was over indulging in them which restricted weight loss.

I think if you were to make a sensible amount then the calorific content wouldnt be doing you too much damage whereas if you were to cook up a couple of packets and then complain your weight wasnt shifting then it would be one area to knock back on to see if there was any change the following week.

  • Morning all. Had a not-so-good day yesterday as I went to my friends for lunch and as her 1yo wasn't too well, we stayed in and she ordered pizza. But, I did have a good breakfast and made mushy pea curry for dinner followed by a mullerlight so it wasn't a completely horrendous day!

Today is a new day, I have a friend coming here for lunch but we can either have chicken salad or leftover curry so no excuses for me :)

Am actually looking forward to WI after all my boot camp sessions and sticking to plan 90% of the time.

so it seems, after googling saw that as you are changing the use of the lasagne sheet you would potentially eat more as cooked as intended they would fill you up more than eating them this way...

3.5 syns per sheet?! better off eating a normal bag of crisps to get my fix, less faff!!

ps, mentioned it on the FB photo and consultant has also just commented to say the same and that because they're not being used as part of a meal where you would get the benefit of the superfree and other free to fill you up they would have a syn value

I agree- it's classed as a 'tweak', i.e. foods that are free but used in a way they aren't intended to be cooked/eaten. As Stef says, it's up to you to decide if and how you tweak- there have been a few discussions before (I think counting flavoured porridge as a HEB was one) and there's also one here about it. I think it just comes down to how much you do it and if it affects your losses; everyone is different.

Realised I forgot to post today's plan, duh!
    B: Porridge (B), milk (A), banana, maple syrup (2)
L: Sweetcorn and ham chowder, satsuma
T: Pasta, pesto (2.5), roast veg, cheese (4)
    S: Yogurt (1), Freddo (5)

    :)

Yay, I made it to the end of the thread at last. I have still not followed a plan proper, as I have struggled with a lack of low/no fat dairy products and lack of availabilty on many of the low syn things you guys and girls talk of. We don't have Quorn, nor Fat Free dairy items such as Quark or Creme Fraiche and the like. So I have been trying to keep to the lowest side on added syns and assuming I have had more than my fair share in the less than synful things that I have been able to source. I did find some low-fat cream today, just to try and I have no idea of the syns. I'll see if I can work it out tomorrow but for today I used just a weeny slug of it in carbonara and will freeze the rest in ice-cubes so that I can stretch it out in small portions.

Also trying to make way in my freezer for some better choices of meal options - so it has been a bit random BUT I have still lost 2 pounds in two weeks.:T

    B. 99% FF yoghurt and muesli (plus 5 halves tinned apricots in juice assume approx 2 syns)
    S. Nectarine
    L. SW Tandoori Chicken & loads of salad + 5 grainy crackers(assuming about 1 syn each)
    S. Banana & the last piece of Christmas shortbread (4).
    D. SW Spaghetti Carbonara, with added red onions and mushrooms (used splash of low fat cream instead of FF fromage Frais). Small piece of watermelon, fresh pineapple and some grapes.

Had SS milk in my tea and coffees.
    Mortgage
    Start January 2017: $268,012
    Latest balance $266,734
    Reduction: $1,278.45

Hope you get the car situation sorted tie. It's not uncommon for transport to be provided and in Mr tie's situation employers should understand why he hasn't afforded two cars up until now.

I don't know if this is a current 'push' with SW but our consultant brought up tweaks at last week's Image Therapy (;):rotfl:). Strangely, the lasagne sheets was a big no-no but making cakes/loaves from chickpea dahl or scanbran is actively encouraged at our group (regularly appears at tasting sessions). I agree with Blodwen (and Stef) it's up to you decide. I know I made tweaks (saving syns was one probably) but decided I had leeway to be stricter if I hit a plateau (fortunately I didn't).

kiwisaver, it looks like your muesli was your HEB yesterday but if you can buy Ryvita or similar crispbreads they could be used instead of crackers for a HEB, need to decide how many syns in each I suppose.:)

    :Ton losses, stick at it!
