Hello - just done my first weigh in and have STS. I am trying to do this from home as I really dont like the classes. Have tried SW twice in the past and although I like the diet I just never got to grips with it.

I told myself that I was going to give it a proper chance one more time and I have not lost any weight !

At least I think that I know why....been a bit scimpy with my 1/3 SF and went out for a meal on Sat.

So, here I go again, try another week and hopefully it might start to work at some time.

Can I just ask - if you are going out at the weekend can you save syns? If you can, do you still have a small amount every day ?

Any help you can give me would be great.
    thanks
    Kath

If you know what type of restaurant you are going to, could you pre plan what you are going to eat, eg Chinese food you could look in the sw book to see which dishes are best?
  • Good morning everyone!

Had my weigh-in on Sat and lost a disappointing 1lb - so 4lb in 4 weeks. (week 1, lost a pound, week two gained a pound, week 3 lost 3 pound, week four lost a pound) A loss of a pound a week on average is disappointing for me - especially as I have so much to lose (7stone).

I am going to catch up with the posts over the weekend but am feeling a bit ticked off at present - especially when other members are losing 4-5lb per week and still having takeaways, nights out etc.

I am good 95% of the time, with the occasional blowout once a week, but overall eating more healthily and a lot less calories than I was. I am also having problems with constipation, (its like passing rocks!) even though I am drinking loads, but my consultant advised not too have too much fibre as it can affect weightloss?

I also dont exercise so I guess I will have to do some form of exercise - even though members in my group dont exercise either and still seem to be dropping loads of weight. Very frustrating xx
  • Also forgot to add a huge well done to those that are losing and commiserations to those that are struggling to lose as I am. I am finding it a huge source of help to look here - although I am aware I am not helping a lot with posts, I can totally empaphise with the struggles some posters are having. You are NOT alone. And a huge thanks to the posters who are like consultants on this thread !

If your consultant is seeing your food diaries and suggesting you are consuming too much fibre try upping your intake of the free foods. Alot of people when they start any diet plan think that the more fruit and veg they consume the faster the weight will come away. Yes most of it is high in water content and passes out the body quickly but you also need something more beneficial to stave off the hunger pangs. Intial losses are usually just water retention easing its the longer term ones that matter.

I would not be disappointed with a 1lb a week loss it is a slow and steady pace that could see you toning up once exercise has been introduced.

In Morrisons on saturday i asked my son to pick up 2 of the half sacks of potatoes with one hand. He looked at me rather puzzled after saying we have potatoes in the shed at home. Told him to just pick them up and stand there for as long as he could, few seconds later he said 'Nah mom its too heavy'. Told him in not surprised - he is 4lb away from having lost that amount of weight since June 2012 and he was carrying that around all day every day. He walked away from those spuds with a huge grin on his face.

1lb a week is equivalent to 4stone a year so you should be pleased with yourself :) A previous poster on here lost so much weight so quickly she messed up her hormones etc and had real medical issues due to it so please be careful. Slow and steady will see you remain healthy and keep the weight off longer.

slow and steady wins the race..as they say

its better to lose 1lb a week are you doing extra easy ??
have you thought about trying green days or red days because some people dont react well to too much meat ...try using more white meats etc

you mentioned that your good and others are bad ... if you worry too much about things this can prevent weight loss perhaps because your not eating the right things or eating too little , dont be afraid of having syns ..

you will find what suits your body type only by trial and error but the biggest thing i would say is celebrate every loss wether ts 0.5lb or 10lb its still a huge achievement
'in 4 weeks you have lost almost 2 bags of sugar in weight imagine carrying that around in your hand bag everywhere

as for excercise .. try something new but dont worry if you cant do it everyday a simple walk up and down the stairs or doing 10mins of ironing can help you get fit

If you focus on upping the SFs that'll help. Perhaps you'd like to post your menus on here, you'll get faster feedback than giving a food diary to a consultant.;)

It's not the official advice but I regularly (as in always) save my syns for weekends and eat as syn free as possible during the week (odd tbsp of cornflour for sauces). I resolved that if I didn't lose then I'd try daily syns but fortunately it worked for me. You are allowed 5-15 syns a day. I'm told the recommendation of 10 is to allow leeway for people who don't measure syns properly! I work on 105 a week, use about 80 at weekends then the rest during the week.

For your meal out, you could either save syns or have a 'flexi' meal (or both). A flexi meal/day is when you go over syns for the day but resolve to get straight back on plan the next morning. You're meant to keep a track of syns as you go to help control yourself. I think that's very difficult in restaurants and obsessing about how many syns in every mouthful must ruin the evening.

If I were you I'd save syns, enjoy your meal but make sensible choices without spoiling the evening.
